The Director of Jewish Experience & Innovation develops, implements and oversees J programs and services which aim to strengthen Jewish identity and connection of families and adults through immersive, experiential and spiritual Jewish experiences. Primary responsibilities will include the creation of new and established platforms, programs and initiatives such as retreats, Shabbat and Jewish holiday experiences, Judaic arts, learning, community building projects, and more. The overarching goals of the position will be a) to deepen Jewish engagement of current J program participants and members and b) to broaden the J’s reach in the community by Jewishly engaging new populations.


  • Develop and create activities, programs, or initiatives for adults and families that leads to an increased connection or engagement with Jewish ideas, traditions, values and the Jewish community. May include Shabbat and holiday programs, Jewish social action and community service, retreats, Jewish learning, Judaic arts, and worship/spiritual based programs.
  • Design some of the new activities to target current J participants, in an effort to deepen their Jewish identity and knowledge. Develop other activities that target community members at-large who are not current J Jewish program participants.
  • Evaluate and reimagine the J’s Jewish Arts & Soul Project. If it is determined to be an area of programming that is effective in achieving the above goals, then oversee and implement that area of programming.
  • Oversee Nishmah: The STL Jewish Women’s Project. Supervise the Nishmah director to help grow and improve all the Nishmah offerings and impact in the community.
  • Assist Director, Jewish Engagement & Adult Programs with other Jewish programs and initiatives
  • Develop and staff ongoing volunteer committee(s) to assist in planning and implementation of new programs and initiatives.
  • Work closely with marketing department to design and implement a marketing plan for programs.
  • Gather feedback, using Agency survey tools, after programming concludes to report outcomes and identify areas for improvement year over year. Work with Agency’s Director of Community Relations on survey development and launch. Monitor this information against your strategic plan and logic models for your programming.
  • Prepare and submit staff payroll per Agency guidelines.
  • Promote new and existing programs around the JCC and in the community.
  • Collaborate within the JCC to facilitate the most inclusive environment for new and existing programs.
  • Create and adhere to a viable budget for programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 


Required Qualifications

  • BA in Jewish Studies, Jewish Art, Education or related field.
  • Supervisory and administrative experience.
  • 5-10 years prior experience in Jewish organization or Jewish communal work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive experience planning and implementing Jewish educational, Israel and/or cultural programs.
  • Must be self-motivated, a creative thinker and highly organized.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Available to work nights and Sundays, as required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Jewish education or related field (MSW, MEd, etc.).
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
  • Experience with public speaking, and leading small and large group presentations.
