The Melville Jewish Center in western Suffolk County is hiring a Director for our Early Childhood Center (ECC). Our program is accredited by the
NYS Office of Family & Child Services. We aim to provide a warm and nurturing preschool environment where children are given the opportunity
to grow at their own pace, develop their own identity and experience relationships with both children and adults. Our teachers are trained and
qualified early childhood educators who are skilled at developing a program that is multi-sensory and comprised of age-appropriate units and themes.
The curriculum is filled with many hands-on, stimulating and enriched activities incorporating math, science, language arts and social science,
which teach and reinforce all the skills necessary to build a strong foundation for future learning. In addition, we focus on strengthening the
children’s social emotional competency and also strive to build a positive Jewish identity. We have programs geared to the changing needs of our
families and include Infant & Me classes, Grown Up & Me classes, Separation classes, before-school care and after-school activities as well as
classes for two and three-year-olds. We also run a seven-week Summer DayCamp program.

The Director is responsible for all aspects of the Early Childhood Center, including daily operations, staff recruiting, training and management, budget, curriculum planning, and program quality for 12 months a year. The school day currently begins at 9:30am and runs until 2:30pm, not including before-care and after-school activities. The Director must meet New York State Director Certification Requirements including a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field along with experience supervising staff in a child care program. Special Education experience a plus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Ensure compliance with all OCFS regulations
  • Enforce school policies and procedures while maintaining a warm and nurturing environment
  • Develop annual budget
  • Publicize and promote the ECC through all available channels including but not limited to social media, open houses, free classes and tours
  • Coordinate registration process and maintain up to date records in Shulcloud
  • Organize and host annual Parent Orientation evening
  • Manage parent communication tools including email, text, social media and photo sharing. Interact with parents as needed to ensure a positive school experience.
  • Develop annual calendar of Early Childhood events and Jewish programming in partnership with Melville JC leadership
  • Manage purchasing of equipment and supplies (including food)
  • Arrange for repairs and maintenance with appropriate partiesAttend Board Meetings and other synagogue meetings as needed
  • Attend and plan Early Childhood programs including fundraising events, Sukkot brunch, annual grade-level Shabbat program, Purim Carnival, and additional appropriate synagogue programs
  • Supervise, evaluate and coach teachers including professional development
  • Recruit, hire and guide new teachers, substitute teachers and support staff
