Job Title:        Youth and Teen Coordinator

Department:  Department of Lifelong Learning

Status:           Salary Exempt

Hours:            15 Hours a month

Reports To:    Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning

Congregation Emanu-El, the first Reform congregation in New York City, seeks to hire a part-time Youth and Teen Program Coordinator for its Department of Lifelong Learning. The work of this department is to transform and revolutionize the congregation’s educational programs, including its Religious School, holiday celebrations, youth and adult education programs. The Youth and Teen Program Coordinator works directly with teens in our K-12th grades, facilitating the planning and execution of formal and informal learning experiences for students in their parents, families, and friends. Ongoing responsibilities include supervising and maintaining our high standards for service learning and leadership development in our teen programs, collaborating with faculty and parents, shepherding the engagement of our teens and their families, and direct teaching. The work of the Youth Learning and Engagement Youth and Teen Program Coordinator is supported and supervised by our Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning. This position is 15 hours per month from August to May.

Youth and Teen Program Coordinator will:

  • Recruit new students into our youth programs and support their participation, retention, and achievement.
  • Create informal programming for K-12th graders
  • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning, Teen Executive Board, and participants of five of our teen groups to facilitate their successes:
    • Teen Philanthropic Committee works to determine a focus for this year’s $10,000 grant, learn about grant-giving, and develop communication skills (8th-12th grade).
    • Assisting with Teen Shabbat empowers all of our teen leaders to use their voice and lead our community in a Friday Night Shabbat Service.
    • Assisting with Teen High Holy Days empowers all of our teen leaders to create a memorable Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur Teen Service for our families in 5th grade and up.
    • Assist with Calling Generations help teens form an ongoing relationship with an adult member of Emanu-El through weekly phone calls (8th -12th grade).
    • Assist with Teen Volunteer Opportunities like Midnight Run and A-TEEM, show our teens putting Jewish values into action, making a real impact in their communities while growing as compassionate leaders.
  • Serve as a mentor to young people in our community.

 The ideal candidate:

  • Brings new ideas and the ability to implement them.
  • Has both formal and informal educational experience.
  • Is familiar with the Hebrew language and Reform Jewish liturgy and comfortable working in a Classical Reform environment.
  • Is a team player, working collaboratively with clergy, school faculty, and parents.
  • Has excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Effectively sets priorities and manages multiple tasks.
  • Is achievement-oriented, passionate, fun, disciplined, and responsible.

Candidates with a background in performing arts, media, and technology, and experiential education are especially encouraged to apply. This is a part-time position, whose schedule during the school year includes evening meetings and High Holiday preparation, and participating with youth and teens. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required on an occasional basis throughout the academic year. The ideal starting date is August 18, 2025, and programs run through May 30, 2026. Salary is based on experience. The Youth and Teen Program Coordinator will report to and be supervised by the Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning.
