Director of Temple Youth Activities/ NFTY-GER Mentor

 

Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple (AEMT) has been leading Jewish life in New Brunswick, NJ for 166 years. We are a vibrant historical community dedicated to the teachings of Jewish traditions in a modern Reform community.

 

Our staff see themselves as part of a family and are looking for someone who wants to work in that type of an environment. We are seeking an innovative and dynamic team player to be our Director of Youth Activities for our 4-12th grade. The candidate should be an exceptional youth professional who can guide teens and pre-teens, build personal relationships, and expand our youth community in creative ways. This candidate should exude warmth, creativity, and a commitment to Jewish life through relationship and community building, engaging our teens with a high level of creative programming.  Songleading is a plus.

 

The Director of Temple Youth Activities/ NFTY-GER Mentor is a shared full-time position between AEMT and the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ). We anticipate that this role and responsibilities will be split 75%/25% on average between AEMT and NFTY. In this role, the Director of Temple Youth Activities/ NFTY-GER Mentor is a shared full-time position between AEMT and The URJ. We anticipate that this responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing innovative programs and outreach strategies to engage, support, and empower our Teen Program while building connections between participants.

 

Shared Staff Responsibilities During the Academic Year

 

NFTY Responsibilities

 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Monthly cohort meetings with the full NFTY regional mentor staff
  • Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins with their NFTY supervisor
  • 1:1s with NFTY stakeholders to build relationships in the region
  • Implement camp-hosted NFTY event and supporting local programming through advertising and bringing teen leader
  • Communicate in a timely manner and ensure stakeholders are connected to teen engagement and the URJ
    During the academic year, the shared staff will attend the following in-person events: 
    • The Collab at Greene Family Camp, November 6-11, 2025, travel days included (costs will be covered by NFTY)
    • One camp-hosted NFTY event

Congregational Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement activities that attract teens and pre-teens and build community
  • Create a youth leadership to enhance our junior and senior youth groups that are connected to NFTY
  • Organize youth social action projects
  • Chaperone grade level field trips
  • Teach High School class

 Qualifications and Core Competencies

  • Strong Jewish identity and understanding of the principles of Reform Judaism
  • Experience with informal Jewish education for teens and pre-teens
  • Strong organizational, collaboration, technology, and communication skills
  • Ability to serve as a Jewish role model
  • Song leading is a big plus

Work Environment and Salary

  • September-May, position requiring some evenings, weekends, and travel
  • Salary $50,000-$55,000 based on experience
