We are seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as the Principal of Westchester Day School. The Principal will be responsible for providing instructional and visionary leadership, fostering a positive school culture, and ensuring the success of students, faculty, and staff. The Principal reports to the Head of School and serves on the executive leadership team.

About the School 

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. 

Responsibilities include:

Educational/ Instructional/Visionary Leadership:

  • Provide visionary leadership in curriculum development and implementation, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with educational leadership and faculty to develop, enhance and guide effective instructional practices and strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate curriculum standards to ensure they meet educational goals and compliance requirements; provide oversight and rationale, particularly in math, writing, and ELA.

Teacher Development and Support:

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth among the school's educators and leaders, and a collaborative and supportive work environment conducive to professional growth and team cohesion.
  • Develop and implement systems for teacher growth and support, including observation meetings.

Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community members to foster a sense of partnership and involvement in school activities.
  • Maintain transparent and effective communication with stakeholders to address concerns, share information, and promote school initiatives, conduct parent education sessions, special events, and informational sessions per grade.

Student Achievement, Support and Wellbeing:

  • Establish systems and programs for students to thrive in all aspects of their school experience to give them the skills and tools to be successful in high school and beyond
  • Monitor student achievement data and implement strategies for improvement.
  • Implement programs and initiatives to support student welfare, mental health, and academic success.
  • Establish and enforce behavior expectations and disciplinary procedures in accordance with school policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with student services and external resources to address student needs and concerns.

Administrative Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of educational operations.
  • Ensure compliance with educational standards and relevant regulations.
  • Identify and implement policies and procedures, systems, and processes to meet the needs of students and teachers.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education or related field 
  • Prior experience in school administration required
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development, teacher support, and parent engagement.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of educational best practices, curriculum development, and assessment strategies.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of educators and support staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and build positive relationships within the school community.

Salary range for this role is $140,000-$160,000, dependent upon education and experience.
