The Orthodox Union’s Center for Communal Research, founded in 2018, provides the OU and the broader Jewish community with data and insights to inform internal decisions and foster communal engagement.

About This Position

The Principal Quantitative Researcher will lead the design and implementation of applied research studies and program evaluations, with a strong emphasis on quantitative survey methods and impact assessment. This is an ideal role for an experienced researcher who enjoys translating complex data into actionable insights, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and applying rigorous methods to real-world questions.

This position reports to the Associate Director of the Center for Communal Research and may involve supervising junior staff, contractors, and interns.

This is a full-time, remote position open to candidates based in the United States and within reasonable proximity to a major airport. Occasional domestic travel is expected. Candidates located in the New York area may also choose to work from the OU’s headquarters in the Financial District.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Accountabilities 

  • Design and execute applied research and program evaluations, with a focus on quantitative survey methods and impact assessment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across OU departments and partner institutions to align research goals and ensure stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage research projects, coordinating timelines, tasks, and deliverables to meet deadlines.
  • Lead primary data collection, including survey sampling, instrument development, administration, and statistical analysis.
  • Conduct secondary analyses of large or complex survey datasets to extract meaningful insights.
  • Clean and prepare administrative data, working with real-world, often messy datasets.
  • Review academic literature, evaluating the strength of evidence and synthesizing relevant findings.
  • Translate research for practice, supporting policymakers and practitioners in applying findings and developing research questions.
  • Produce deliverables such as written reports, presentations, and data visualizations tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Support ethical research practices, including drafting IRB protocols and monitoring informed consent processes.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing Research, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing research, program evaluation, community needs assessment, or a related area.
  • Expertise in quasi-experimental design and impact assessment methodologies.
  • Strong quantitative research skills, including survey design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Proficiency in survey platforms such as Qualtrics (or similar).
  • Fluency in statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, or SAS (SQL skills a plus).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and with external stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • A strong commitment to research ethics; experience with IRB protocols and human subjects research certification (e.g., CITI) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Orthodox Jewish community and its institutions, and/or experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • Intellectual curiosity and sensitivity to a wide range of people, ideas, and social phenomena.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is between $100,000 - $115,000, commensurate with experience.
