We are now hiring for a Senior Development Officer (SDO) to serve as a front line fundraiser on behalf of JDC. The SDO is expected to actively engage in stewarding current JDC individual and foundation donors while also identifying, engaging and qualifying prospects with the goal of supporting JDC's fundraising strategy and long-term growth priorities. The SDO is responsible for soliciting these current donors and prospects at the $10,000 level and above.

What will you do as a Senior Development Officer?
- Identify, research, cultivate, steward, and solicit individual, foundation, and corporate donors for new, renewed or increased five figure ($10k - $1M) priority and budget approved gifts, and other related projects
- Strengthen strategic funding relationships with key JDC stakeholders and major philanthropic partners, including select Jewish Federations. Cultivate relationships with lay leadership, Board members and trustees of Federations and other significant Jewish organizations
- Plan strategic donor engagement activities, including: events travel to the field, and speaker tours
- Present on JDC’s behalf to funders/prospects and other groups and partners in person and via other technologies
- Track and monitor all major contacts/activities with donors and prospects according to JDC procedures
- Work closely with units across RD and the organization to ensure alignment at all levels, including identification of donors, outreach and solicitation, identifying funding needs, communication and messaging
- Work to meet activity and fundraising metrics/goals, to be developed with supervisor
- Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time
What qualifications are required to be our Senior Development Officer?
- Proven track record (minimum 5-10 years) as an innovative and accomplished fundraiser
- Proven success in soliciting and closing major gifts, and in building and maintaining relationships with major individual donors, especially in the Jewish community
- Experience navigating long-standing or complex fundraising partnerships
- Skills and discipline to use donor management systems and other technologies necessary in an international fundraising structure
- Excellent knowledge of the Washington DC, Philadelphia, and broader East Coast philanthropic landscape and funding community
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to inspire individuals and audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills
- Adaptability and flexibility, and humbleness to learn new processes and thrive in an ever-changing work environment
- A proactive self-starter with excellent networking capabilities who is able to work on one’s own and efficiently
- Ability to travel domestically 4-5 times and overseas 1-2 times annually
- At least a Bachelor's degree required
- Has a commitment and passion for the work of the JDC and global Jewish issues and the ability to effectively translate that to prospects and donors.
- Ability to read words and numbers, operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment, and communicate in person or over the telephone
Additional Preferred Skills and Competencies:
- Experience working with Jewish federations strongly preferred; experience raising funds for Jewish non-profits a plus
- Familiarity with Israel and the overseas Jewish world is a plus
- Experience working in a global organization or navigating different cultures a plus
- An established network of contacts and relationships in the region is a plus
- Graduate degree and CFRE designation are a plus

- Hours: 35 hours/week, 8:45 AM – 4:45PM with a 1-hour lunch break; some flexibility in mornings, evenings, and weekends required for time differences and events

What are the compensation and benefits for a Senior Development Officer?
This is a full-time position paid semi-monthly at a salary of $165,000-$180,000 per year; in determining where a candidate falls in that range JDC considers several factors, including skills and experience, internal equity, and cost of living in location of work. This role is exempt per the FLSA.
