 JOB DESCRIPTION 

TITLE:                          Major Gifts Officer & Corporate Partnerships Lead 

DEPARTMENT:           Campaign 

FLSA STATUS:             Exempt 

 

FUNCTION: This role requires experience in major gifts solicitations, with an emphasis on corporate giving, and foundational support. 

 

 Major Gifts Officer is responsible for, implementing, growing and evaluating the major gifts division for the Federation through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals, foundation endowment, and other prospects.   

 

Develop and execute strategies to cultivate new institutional partners, including corporations and Foundation funders. Serve as primary liaison for corporate and Foundation donors in coordination with executive and volunteer leadership.  

 

REPORTS TO:              Chief Development Officer       

SUPERVISES:               If applicable, might supervise administrative staff, and/or development associates.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

 

Philanthropy 

Work within the major gift division of the annual campaign with an emphasis on stewarding major donors with direct access to corporate giving.. Solicit donors who oversee DAFs, Family Foundations, etc.

  1. Grow and elevate Federation’s corporate gifts portfolio, with a goal of increasing visibility, prestige, and presence of nationally recognized brands supporting Federation’s mission. 
  2. Gradually grow the roster of Corporate and Foundation supporters to represent a $1M in annual giving, and program underwriting.  
  3. Build, meaningful, long lasting relationship with corporate, information, and production sponsors that help advance Federation’s mission. 
  4. Develops effective strategies for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects, through the relationship based fundraising model to further engagement with the organization, focusing on major donors.
  5. Assists with budget preparation and monitoring within the philanthropy department.
  6. Manage the overall relationship with relevant Committees, involving staff and lay leaders as appropriate.  Ensure timely and accurate information is provided to ensure that campaign leadership feel fully supported.
  7. Develop and execute strategies to cultivate new institutional partners, including corporations and Foundations. Manage existing relationships in this area.
  8. In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer:
  9. Ensure that donor information is effectively and efficiently maintained, and prospect cultivation activity is appropriately tracked.  
  10. Ensure that reporting systems are complete, efficient, accurate and monitored for quality control.
  11. Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to provide exceptional customer service to all donors and prospects.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.               

Experience:  A minimum of 5-7 years experience in financial resource development, including donor development. Must have prior experience developing fundraising strategies to secure corporate Foundations and sponsorship. 

Other Requirements:               

  • Excellent communication skills in person, on the phone and in writing.  
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products and Raiser’s Edge database.  
  • Ability to organize, monitor, and track numerous ongoing and one-time activities, events and projects.  
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills including the ability to meet, greet and educate people with confidence and poise.
  • Ability to logically solve problems with minimal supervision.  
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and be detail oriented.  
  • Discretion handling and communicating sensitive information.  
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and handle stress.
  • Willingness to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.  
  • A positive attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
  • Sensitivity to Jewish culture and traditions.
  • Ability to travel and work in off-site settings on a regular basis.  Ability to work evenings, weekends, or irregular hours as necessary to interact with donors and prospects and attend relevant meetings and events.
