Congregation Beth Shalom is a Conservative Synagogue located in the heart of Pinellas County. The organization seeks an Engagement Associate who will play a central role in creating meaningful, inclusive, and well-organized events and programs that foster community and connection within the synagogue. This full-time position is ideal for a strategic, forward-thinking individual who enjoys both big-picture planning and hands-on implementation. The Engagement Associate will work in close partnership with volunteer event chairs, clergy, board members, and staff to manage synagogue programming from concept through execution. In addition to program coordination, the role includes key administrative support and oversight of synagogue communications and marketing.

Position Details:

  • Employment Type: Full-Time (Some evenings and weekends required)
  • Reports To: Executive Director

Responsibilities

Program & Event Management

  • Partner with event chairs and board leaders to plan and execute synagogue events and programs of all sizes.
  • Oversee event logistics, including timelines, budgets, venue setup, volunteer coordination, and vendor management.
  • Ensure programs are well-communicated, mission-aligned, and thoughtfully executed.
  • Contribute to long-term planning by helping to shape a strategic program that supports the goals of the Synagogue and Clergy team.

Communications & Marketing

  • Prepare and distribute synagogue-wide communications, including weekly emails, donation acknowledgements, yahrzeit letters, condolence notices, and special event notices.
  • Design flyers, promotional materials, and program signage.
  • Maintain an active and engaging presence on social media platforms.
  • Update the synagogue website with current events and relevant information.

Administrative & Office

  • Manage and maintain the synagogue’s master calendar, coordinating events, meetings, rentals, kiddush lunches, and lifecycle celebrations.
  • Answer phones and respond to inquiries with professionalism and warmth.
  • Provide general administrative support to clergy and senior staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in event planning, nonprofit management, marketing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating programs and events.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva (or similar design tools), social media platforms, and email marketing.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.

  • Strategic thinker who is proactive, adaptable, and community-minded.
  • Comfortable taking initiative while working collaboratively with volunteers and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of Jewish holidays, customs, and synagogue life is a plus.
  • Positive, warm, and welcoming presence.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $45,000 annually
  • Benefits: Dental, Medical, Sick Days, Vacation Days, early leave for Shabbat, additional days off for federal and Jewish holidays.
