The Community Programs & Events Director (formerly known as the Public Programs Director) serves as the lead staff person ideating, managing, and overseeing Community Programs & Events at Urban Adamah. The Community Programs & Events Director supervises a full-time Community Programs & Events Associate and Urban Adamah Residents work-trade hours.
PROGRAM DIRECTION & EVENT PRODUCTION
Developing and managing high quality, on-brand, mission aligned programming, engaging and creating meaning for the broader community. This includes planning ~12-15 programs per month. Some of these programs recur on a weekly or monthly basis, while others are stand-alone, one time events.
Community programs & events encompass a wide range of single and multi-session experiences, some of which are developed and offered in collaboration with other community organizations and partners. Programs include but are not limited to:
- Kabbalat Shabbat services (100-150 participants/program; occurring monthly)
- Tot Shabbat programs services (20-80 participants/program; occurring monthly)
- Large Jewish holiday celebrations: Rosh HaShana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Tu b’Shvat, Purim, and Passover (100-400 participants/program)
- Jewish exploration and learning opportunities (12-20 participants/program; occurring monthly or quarterly)
- Quarterly urban farming and sustainable agriculture workshops (20-30 participants/program)
- Social Action and Justice focused programs (20-60 participants; occurring monthly or quarterly)
- Mindfulness Programs include partial day and full day mediation programs (20-40 participants; occurring quarterly)
- Film screenings, musical performances, & singing circles, and similar programs (20-60 participants; occurring monthly or quarterly)
- A variety of new and innovative programs interweaving Urban Adamah’s four worlds and reflecting community members expressed interests (participant size varies; occurring monthly or quarterly)

PROGRAM & EVENT MANAGEMENTThe Community Programs & Events Director is also responsible for personally hosting/staffing some events, including some weekend and evening events. Additionally, the Director coordinates and manages event staff for other programs, including educators, caterers, musicians, caterers, and other program contractors and vendors. The Director oversees and manages all event follow-up, evaluation, and departmental budgeting.
PROGRAM & EVENT ADMINISTRATIONThe Director oversees and directly manages all administrative elements of the Community Programs & Events suite of activities. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Receiving and evaluating program proposals from individual program providers
- Developing program partnerships with aligned community organizations
- Managing all collaboration, coordination, negotiation, pricing, revenue sharing, and contracting with program partners
- Ensuring program providers are paid in a timely fashion post-program
- Internal evaluation of program successes and shortcomings to ensure ongoing program development and enhancement
- Distribution and collection of post-program evaluations to and from program participants
- Trouble-shooting and and proposing solutions to program shortcomings, whether of a programmatic, management, or administrative nature
ADDITIONAL ROLESThe Community Programs & Events Director is in many cases the face of Urban Adamah and plays an important role welcoming and helping participants connect with one another. The Community Programs & Events Director may also be asked to assist with coordinating donor visits and fundraising events.
RESIDENCY PROGRAMThe Community Programs & Events Director manages Residents’ work-trade hours hosting and supporting public programs, retreats, and site use by outside organizations and individuals. This work is done in close collaboration with the manager of the Residency program, and includes:
- Managing the work-trade sign-up & tracking system
- Onboarding residents to the work of the public programs department
- Training Residents for specific programs with which they are assisting
- Developing and communicating instructions for each program with which Residents are assisting
