Title: Judaic Studies Educator 

Position Description:

Brawerman West seeks a full-time teacher to hold primary teaching responsibilities for Judaic studies. The teacher will report to the Principal and work in close partnership with the Director of Jewish Life and Learning and with co-teachers who are primarily responsible for general studies. Together, they will be responsible for the academic, emotional, and spiritual growth of their students.

About Brawerman:

Brawerman Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Reform Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) with two campuses. The original West campus was founded in 1999 in a modern facility located in West Los Angeles. The East campus opened in fall 2011 in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, adjacent to the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple sanctuary. We are a tight-knit community with a high level of collaboration among the faculty and an active parent body. We continue to seek creative and passionate educators who enjoy being part of a team and who are committed to learning, reflective practice, and using innovative pedagogy.

The teacher will report to the Principal and work in close partnership with the Director of Jewish Life and Learning and with co-teachers who are primarily responsible for general studies. Together, they will be responsible for the academic, emotional, and spiritual growth of their students.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement curriculum materials consistent with Brawerman’s mission and its Schoolwide Learner Outcomes. The main curricular areas for Judaic Studies are Jewish holidays, Parshat Hashavua, and Jewish values and living.
  • Participate in and be a role model during the weekly T’fillah, Kabbalat Shabbat, and other programming
  • Maintain the physical environment to reflect Jewish living and learning in the classrooms and the entire school
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning environment in the classroom
  • Assess students’ academic progress towards the Schoolwide Learner Outcomes 
  • Collaborate with grade-level colleagues about curriculum and educational programming

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Jewish Education preferred 
  • Experience in curriculum design and implementation
  • Textual Hebrew skills, fluency and passion for t’fillot, breadth and depth of Jewish traditions and practice
  • Takes initiative, works well independently, and accepts direction and feedback with a commitment to a growth mindset. 
  • Experience teaching Jewish text and practice 
  • Commitment to joyful and creative Judaism and vibrant diverse Jewish learning
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in day school education

Compensation:

  • $60,000 to 85,000 based on experience and qualifications
  • Competitive benefits package
