Programming and Communications Specialist

Tifereth Israel Congregation, a vibrant, active, egalitarian Conservative synagogue in the Shepherd Park neighborhood of DC that takes pride in caring for members in need while engaging in social justice issues in our neighborhood and beyond, seeks a dynamic and creative Program and Communications Specialist (PCS) to serve as a key driver of our community's growth and engagement. This person will take the lead in publicizing activities and promoting our congregation using social media, print and online channels—reaching both existing TI members and the larger Jewish community – with the goal of attracting, engaging and retaining members. The PCS will help lay leaders create and implement successful programs and events, as well as support projects initiated by the Rabbi and Director of Lifelong Learning

The right candidate is both a team player and a self-starter who is sensitive to a diverse population and has excellent organizational and communications skills. We are looking for someone eager to engage with our energetic congregation, while bringing their own talents and creativity to the job. We value aptitude and a willingness to learn. Candidates who possess the core competencies but are willing to develop skills in certain areas are encouraged to submit an application.

  • Promote synagogue events and activities both within the congregation and via external outlets.
  • Maintain, strengthen and expand TI’s identity and presence within the congregation and in the broader community.
  • Help to engage and attract new synagogue members and religious school families.
  • Oversee, manage and update website design and content to increase usability and visibility among TI members and the broader community
  • Support lay leaders and professional staff to produce successful programs, services and events
  • Serve as lead staff on TI’s flagship programs and congregational retreat, and lead support staff on annual campaigns

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven track record of designing, producing, and delivering successful programs in either a professional or volunteer capacity.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage diverse stakeholders with professionalism, warmth, and a strong service orientation.

Communications

  • Demonstrated success (2+ years) designing and executing multi-platform social-media strategies for a faith–based, nonprofit, or community organization.
  • Proven ability to create and curate engaging copy and graphics that convey information about Jewish holiday, ritual, social, educational and social-justice programming to diverse audiences of all ages.
  • Hands-on experience managing CMS-based websites and email-marketing platforms, optimizing content for accessibility, SEO, and clear donation/event calls to action.
  • Familiarity with building annual communications calendars around the Jewish liturgical year, school schedules, and fundraising campaigns leading to systematic and timely communications about both ongoing/annual and 1-time activities.

General Attributes

  • Thrives in highly collaborative environments while also able to assume independent responsibility for assigned projects.
  • Flexible, solutions-oriented mindset with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives concurrently and adapt to shifting needs.

This is an in-person, full-time position, with occasional evenings and weekend work. This position has an annual salary of $70,000, plus generous benefits.
