Description

Temple Sinai of Dresher, PA seeks an experienced educator to serve as part-time (25 hours per week) Director of Religious School and Sinai High (our Hebrew High School program through 10th grade), comprising approximately 110 students. Religious School meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 am – 12:45 pm and Tuesday afternoons from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Sinai High meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:45 pm – 8:30 pm.

Temple Sinai is a vibrant inclusive egalitarian Conservative synagogue comprising roughly 400 households in the Philadelphia suburb of Montgomery County. Temple Sinai provides a variety of worship opportunities and programs including daily minyanim, Shabbat and festival services, a year-round Preschool (including a Summer Camp program), social action programs, an active adult education program, as well as Sisterhood, Mens Club and Hazak groups.

Curriculum

  • Monitor and report on effectiveness of the curriculum.
  • Supervise and work with teachers to ensure that their instruction of the curriculum is as effective and engaging as possible.

Personnel

  • Responsible for Religious School/Sinai High staff hiring, development, and retention.
  • Assure that necessary plans are in place for staff training, certification, evaluation, record keeping, and administration.
  • Develop and implement professional development for teachers.

Finances

  • Create annual operating budget for the Religious School and Sinai High.
  • Monitor year-to-date expenditures and provide suggestions for remediation when expenditures outpace budgeted projections.

Student Development

  • Maintain standards for student attendance, participation, learning, evaluation, and testing.
  • Assist teachers in identifying and responding to individual student needs.
  • Introduce age-appropriate programming and services that promote Jewish values and identity.
  • In collaboration with clergy, coordinate Religious School and family programs such as grade-based dinners, grade Shabbatot, Family education programs, etc.
  • In collaboration with clergy and Professional Staff, coordinate High Holiday programming for RS and SH students ensuring there is appropriate staffing.
  • In collaboration with clergy and Sinai High teachers, prepare and implement lessons for Sinai High students 7th-10th grade.

Communication

  • Maintain regular communication with parents through emails, Constant Contact newsletters, updated website content, mailings, and face to face meetings.

Administration

  • Supervise Religious School administrative assistant.
  • Attend weekly professional staff meetings.
  • Assist in the transition of Preschool families to Religious School.
  • Collaborate with Professional staff around calendar requests, schedules and facilities.
  • Submit status reports for Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings. 
  • Participate in Religious School and Youth Programming committees.

Community Relations

  • Represent Temple Sinai in community wide programs involving Religious School students, promoting membership involvement and recruitment.
  • In collaboration with clergy, serve as a community partner to various organizations including Jewish Learning Venture, Bux-Mont Kehillah, and Moving Traditions with initiatives involving Religious School aged children.
