Tiferet Bet Israel: Principal

Tiferet Bet Israel is a vibrant and welcoming Conservative Synagogue in the Philadelphia suburbs. We prioritize Jewish joy and experiences in our education department. We seek a leader and educator who is devoted to building our school in a way that incorporates holistic Jewish education and can ensure our learners are engaged in developing their skills. This individual should be enthusiastic and accessible. The Principal should be willing to experiment with different educational programs and experiences and must be strongly self-evaluative.

We seek an individual with a strong background and knowledge of Prayer, Hebrew, Israel, Torah, Holidays, Tikun Olam, and the Holocaust. The Principal should have experience in an educational setting, project management, experiential education, and vision setting. This individual will effectively communicate and develop relationships with parents, colleagues, children, and visitors in a respectful and professional manner. 

The Religious School Principal will work approximately 25 hours per week during the school year on Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesdays with occasional weeknight hours. Summers will be flexible and average roughly 12 hours per week.

Educational Leadership & Vision

Prepares learners for a meaningful Jewish adulthood by:

  • Providing child-centered Jewish education that recognizes and celebrates the unique individuality of every student and variety of learning styles
  • Designing and evolving creative curricula with input from the Rabbi 
  • Working with the Education Committee to ensure that TBI’s values are present in the school
  • Working with the Rabbi and each family to craft learner-specific B'nai Mitzvah plans
  • Developing and leading or supervising youth experiential Shabbat and Holiday programming
  • Visiting each class with the purpose of demonstrating a positive relationship with teachers and an interest in the students and their lessons
  • Teaching classes as a means to better understand the learners and model educational techniques

Environment

Develops exciting, intergenerational, and inclusive educational environment by:

  • Fostering relationships with students and their families
  • Partners with Education Committee to coordinate volunteers, and to identify class parent representatives who will organize school fundraisers and social gatherings
  • Recruiting and retaining members and encouraging a strong connection to the greater TBI community
  • Partners with the Executive Director to ensure that all programs are run in a safe way that integrates with the rest of TBI’s programming
  • Incorporating Hebrew, art, and music into physical spaces

Administration & Operations

Manages an organized and effective school by:

  • Working with Director of Finance and Executive Director to plan and manage Religious School budget
  • Providing educational team regular evaluations and opportunities to grow 
  • Coordinating paid and volunteer tutors to supplement in-class curricula 
  • Developing and/or updating and implementing all Religious School processes including but not limited to learner recruitment, registration, class placement, learner skill development, material procurement, schedule/calendar management, and family and faculty policy handbooks
  • Recruiting, managing, and supporting educational team 
  • Tracking learner, volunteer, and staff progress
  • Providing regular learner progress reports to parents that reflect attendance, content acquisition, areas of growth, and community participation
  • Provides Religious School updates in relevant TBI meetings

This position reports directly to the Rabbi with a dotted line to the Executive Director and directly supervises the Religious School and High School faculty, experiential educators, specialists, and other staff members as assigned. 

Compensation

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Professional development opportunities will be encouraged and made available. Added responsibility and compensation as contracted tutor for the right candidate is possible.
