Director of Education & Engagement

Position Summary:

Valley Beit Midrash (VBM) seeks a visionary, pluralistic Jewish educator and community builder to serve in a senior leadership role. This role blends deep Torah scholarship with community engagement, social justice education, and movement-building. The Director of Education & Engagement will serve as a core Torah voice and strategic leader, energizing diverse audiences—especially diverse audiences and unaffiliated individuals—through transformative learning and values-driven advocacy.

The ideal candidate will bring both Torah fluency and a proven track record in community-building, outreach, and organizational leadership. Experience with or access to local networks is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach deeply rooted yet accessible Torah to diverse, pluralistic audiences—both online and in person—on topics including Jewish ethics, spirituality, and contemporary issues.
  
  
• Build meaningful relationships with individuals and communities through 1:1 engagement, small group learning, and mentorship.
  
  
• Serve as a visible Torah leader and role model, demonstrating a Judaism rooted in learning, justice, and inclusivity.
  
  
• Mobilize communities to participate in Jewish social justice and advocacy efforts through dynamic educational and programmatic offerings.
  
  
• Collaborate with the leadership of Valley Beit Midrash and Arizona Jews for Justice (AJJ) to expand local visibility and engagement
  
  
• Expand the reach of Valley Beit Midrash by leading classes with national partners (some travel required)
  
  
• Design and implement outreach, marketing, and community engagement strategies tailored to new and existing markets.
  
  
• Develop and support strategic partnerships with nonprofits, funders, and national Jewish justice networks.
  
  
• Co-create (with Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz) a development strategy to ensure long-term sustainability of local and national initiatives.
  
  
• Elevate the profile and impact of VBM and AJJ through partnership-building, thought leadership, and participation in the national Jewish justice ecosystem.
  
  
• Support organizational operations through administrative tasks and office management responsibilities.

Core Qualifications:

• Advanced Jewish learning credentials, such as rabbinic ordination (smicha), a graduate degree in Jewish studies or education, or equivalent intensive beit midrash experience.
  
  
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching Torah and making Jewish wisdom accessible to a range of learners.
  
  
• Strong interpersonal and relational engagement skills.
  
  
• Experience in community outreach, engagement, or nonprofit leadership.
  
  
• Deep commitment to pluralism, social justice, and Jewish ethical leadership.
  
  
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and geographies.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in development/fundraising and cultivating donor relationships.
  
  
• Background in social justice education, service-learning, or civic advocacy.
  
  
• Familiarity with Jewish communal structures and leadership networks.
  
  
• Ability to represent the organization to funders, partners, and the public.
  
  
• Ties to a strong local Jewish or justice community, particularly in the Phoenix area, are a plus

Structure, Compensation & Benefits:

• Full-time position (40 hours per week)
  
  
• In-office position based in Scottsdale, AZ
  
  
• Annual salary: $100,000
  
  
• Health insurance with generous employer contribution
