SUMMARY       Shalom Bayit seeks a dynamic, experienced Jewish professional to join our phenomenal team in a new role that will take our prevention programs to the next level. The Prevention Manager will lead a team of educators to coordinate innovative abuse prevention, outreach, and education programs. The position is responsible for developing and implementing an effective strategic vision and programs for preventing gender-based violence in the Bay Area Jewish community. Utilizing a Jewish lens, this includes managing the outreach & prevention department, supervising a team of youth and adult educators, designing effective outreach campaigns, and policy development to help the Jewish community prevent and respond to intimate partner abuse and sexual harassment. Must be familiar with Bay Area Jewish community and able to effect change with community leaders and institutions. The position requires excellent management, program development, and communication skills; a strong desire to work in a small, collaborative, social justice environment; and a passion for ending violence against women.

ABOUT SHALOM BAYIT: Shalom Bayit is the San Francisco Bay Area’s leading Jewish voice on gender-based violence. Through youth and adult prevention programs, training, advocacy, crisis intervention, Jewish healing, and powerful programs that center survivors of abuse, Shalom Bayit is building a Jewish communal response to abuse. Our programs create safety for women and gender minorities in the places we hold most sacred: home, work, school, and our Jewish communal institutions. For 30 years, Shalom Bayit has been shining a light on domestic violence in the Jewish community -- bringing women’s safety from the margin to the center of Jewish communal concern. Leadership & Management:

  • Lead Shalom Bayit’s newly-restructured cross-functional prevention department
  • Provide agency leadership as an integral member of the management team
  • Supervise, manage and mentor team of 4-5 educators to coordinate effective program delivery
  • Promote excellence in agency performance and programs through collaborative participation in planning, agency functions and public events, and activities that support healthy day-to-day functioning and growth of the organization

Program Planning & Design

  • Strategic Program Development: Implement and advance agency strategies for effective abuse prevention education and programming, leveraging the talents and skills of our education team
  • Program Coordination: Oversee Shalom Bayit’s key prevention initiatives including: Domestic Violence education, Love Shouldn’t Hurt (youth), MenschUp (healthy masculinity/men’s allyship), We Commit (Sexual harassment and respectful Jewish workplace trainings), Svoboda (Russian community), and other community education.
  • Relationship Management & Community Engagement: In collaboration with the Executive Director and Prevention team, foster successful relationships with Jewish leaders and organizations to advance Shalom Bayit’s mission and community change goals.
    • Build strategic relationships and campaigns, including overseeing clergy & congregational relationships, outreach and activities to be carried out by prevention educators
    • Manage the advisory councils (Rabbinic, MenschUp, Svoboda) that provide specialized lay leadership to specific initiatives
  • Policy: Lead policy implementation to prevent abuse in synagogues and other Jewish institutions
  • Local thought leadership: Represent agency through Bay Area public speaking and presence
  • National thought leadership: Promote Love Shouldn’t Hurt national curriculum and new opportunities for Jewish communities outside our service area to leverage professional use of Shalom Bayit content. Provide consultation to communities seeking to replicate or implement our curricula.
  • Innovation: Support the team of educators to develop and innovate new content for violence prevention modules that respond to current community needs and best practices in the field
  • Youth Leadership: Oversee and advance the Love Shouldn’t Hurt internship program
  • Evaluation: Ensure feedback and reporting mechanisms for prevention programs are current, accurate, and effective including: evaluation, statistics, and grant reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS   The ideal candidate is a seasoned Jewish professional and highly effective, experienced program manager who is passionate about our mission, vision, and organizational philosophy; who desires to work in a Jewish social-change organization empowering women and girls; and who possesses the following qualities and skills:

  • At least two years professional experience in program management and development
  • Ability to work effectively with Jewish communal leaders, professionals, and volunteers;
  • Experience in Jewish communal organizing
  • Knowledge, understanding, and/or experience with abuse prevention best practices
  • Ability to create and manage organizational systems
  • Excellent training and public speaking skills;
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to plan, prioritize and organize workload
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Personal qualifications of responsibility, sensitivity, flexibility, initiative, and insight
  • Commitment to social change approaches to ending gender-based violence
  • Knowledge of Bay Area Jewish community and/or other Jewish communal experience
  • 40-hour domestic violence advocate training (can be completed after hire)
  • Survivors of domestic or sexual violence, Jews of Color, LGBT and gender non-conforming individuals, and people of traditionally underrepresented Jewish backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
