The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.  

DILLER ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW 

Diller Teen Fellows is an immersive experiential education program for 11th graders designed to inspire and promote engagement and leadership among Jewish youth. This international program began in San Francisco in 1998 and has since expanded to include 32 communities across seven countries in North and South America, South Africa, Australia, Europe, and Israel. The program is sponsored locally by the Helen Diller Family Foundation and the Federation. 

Over the course of the 12-month program, Diller Teen Fellows engage in: 

  • Jewish identity building 
  • Leadership skills development  
  • Israel exploration and connection 
  • Community service and tikkun olam 

Each year, 20 Bay Area teens are selected to participate in the program in parallel with 20 Diller Teen Fellows in the Upper Galilee region of Israel. Fellows participate in a yearlong experience that includes: 

  • 14 Sunday workshops 
  • 3 weekend retreats/Shabbatonim Tikkun olam/social action projects 
  • A ten-day hosting opportunity of Israeli peers as the Upper Galilee cohort visits the Bay Area 
  • A 3-week Israel Summer Seminar bringing all Fellows from seven countries together for a fun and immersive experience. 

ROLE SUMMARY  

The Diller Fellows Associate is a regular, part-time Federation employee, responsible for supporting the Diller Fellows Program Coordinator in executing an array of administrative duties. This includes staffing events, prepping materials, organizing logistics, supporting teens in related work, and recruitment assistance.  The Diller Fellows Program Associate will participate in regular meetings to fully understand the work and goals of the Diller Fellows Program and to be trained on their duties each month. The Diller Associate can expect 4 hours of work per week, this can go up to 8 hours as needed. In addition to the day-to-day work at JCF, this position will attend Sunday meetings with the teens, weekend retreats and support a three-week summer seminar in Israel. 

This is part-time role, reporting to Director, Teen Philanthropy and Leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Staff Sunday meetings and weekend retreats to assist with program logistics and supervision of teens. 
  • Assist in meeting prep (logistics, supplies, speakers, materials, etc.). 
  • Attend three-week summer seminar in Israel. 
  • Supervision of teens in programs and on trips.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Program Coordinator and Junior Counselors.
  • Participate in regular meetings supervision meetings.
  • Act as facilitator for educational activities, as needed. 
  • Support programmatic prep, as needed delegated by Program Coordinator
  • Assist with recruitment logistics and interviews. 
  • Input data into salesforce, run reports, and monitor payment schedule.
  • Assist with other special projects as needed delegated by Program Coordinator. 
Requirements

  QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES   

  • Strong interpersonal skills, team player, work professionally with colleagues and with teens.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, needs, hours. 
  • Extremely organized and able to multi-task. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective communicator.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions. 
  • Proficient with technology. 
  • All Federation employees working with teens will be required to pass a background check and will be fingerprinted. 
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for the Jewish community, its customs and practices preferred. 
  • Must possess a U.S. passport and/or appropriate visa allowing international travel. 
  • Valid California driver’s license. 
  • Knowledge of Hebrew is a plus. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience working with teens 
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite, experience with Salesforce is a plus.
