Temple Sholom, a vibrant, creative, traditional, egalitarian synagogue in Greenwich, CT (approximately 35 miles from NYC), seeks a visionary Director of Temple Sholom Learning Center, a high-quality, educational program rooted in Jewish values and student-centered learning. The ideal candidate will foster a nurturing, welcoming, and spirited culture for students, families, and staff through a vision of education that integrates the principles, laws, and traditions of Judaism.

The Temple Sholom Learning Center offers a unique Jewish educational experience for children from as early as Pre-K through 7th grade, plus a vibrant madrichim program for teens, which fosters a love of learning through kindness, respect, and cooperation, under the leadership of dedicated educators.  The current enrollment is 350 students, with a staff of over 30 educators.  TSLC meets on Sunday mornings for the whole school and on Tuesdays or Wednesdays for the 3rd – 7th graders.  This is a full-time position.

As the Director of the Temple Sholom Learning Center, you will be responsible for overseeing the school's overall operations and leading the development and implementation of its curriculum. You will provide vision, leadership, and direction to the TSLC’s educational programs. This role encompasses teaching, curriculum development, instructional design, community building, supervision, and staff mentoring in a supportive and creative setting.  Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Educational Vision & Philosophy:
    Articulate and execute a thoughtful philosophy of Jewish education that aligns with Temple Sholom’s mission and values, emphasizing experiential and values-based learning.
  • Program Leadership:
    Lead with enthusiasm and vision, inspiring a culture of excellence and creativity in Jewish learning. Model a passion for lifelong learning, Jewish values, and connection to Israel and the Jewish people.
  • Curriculum Design & Implementation:
    Develop and implement innovative, engaging, and experiential curricula for all grade levels, integrating Jewish values, holidays, Bible stories, and tefillah.
    Bring a creative approach to Hebrew learning that inspires confidence and joy among students.
  • Community & Communication:
    Foster strong, collaborative relationships with clergy, staff, teachers, parents, and learners.
    Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure alignment and engagement across the program.
  • Teacher Recruitment, Mentorship & Development:
    Recruit, hire, and onboard outstanding educators.
    Supervise, observe, and mentor teaching staff, with a focus on promoting professional growth and best practices.
    Create opportunities for ongoing professional development of teachers.

Qualifications

  • Experience in creative curriculum development and implementation.
  • Preferred degree in Jewish Education or equivalent experience demonstrating deep Judaic knowledge and leadership.
  • Supervisory experience in a synagogue religious school, Jewish camp, day school, Hillel, or other Jewish environments.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in professional development, classroom observation, and mentoring teachers.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with a drive for excellence.
  • Passion for imparting a love of Israel and Zionism.
  • Understanding of diverse learning styles and a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Desire to continue learning and growing as an educator and leader.
  • Flexible and spontaneous leadership style.
  • Ability to understand enrollment forecasting and budgets.
