is an independent, community Jewish day school in Washington, DC that offers a curriculum of general studies, Hebrew, and Judaic studies for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) is directly responsible for securing philanthropic support for MILTON and enhancing the school's reputation locally and nationally.


MILTON seeks an Assistant Director of Development to be an essential part of the IA team. This is a full-time position with significant evening and weekend work required. Working closely with the Deputy Director of Development, the Assistant Director is charged with planning and executing each year’s annual giving strategy, including direct solicitations, campaigns and events. The Assistant Director’s focus will be on strengthening a culture of philanthropy and securing mid-level gifts and broad community participation in service of an approximately $1 million per year annual fund goal.


Essential Qualifications:


The IA team seeks a person with 5 years’ minimum experience in charitable gift solicitation, strategic donor cultivation and stewardship, and event planning. Familiarity with donor engagement software, including Raiser’s Edge, is a plus. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and writing skills, a commitment to personal growth, and a prevailing can-do attitude.


Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Maintain an active portfolio of mid-level donor prospects.
  • Develop and execute a multi-channel fundraising plan to achieve annual financial goals and attract, retain, and recapture donors.
  • Work closely with the IA team and other departments to cultivate and steward donors.
  • Utilize a sophisticated donor database to track giving and engagement, analyze giving trends, and support a relationship-based fundraising model.
  • Run major development events, including Share the Nachas Day (grandparents' day), Purim Ball (gala), and the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture (community lecture), among others.
  • Recruit and empower volunteer leaders to assist with development work.
  • Create and deploy development-related materials, including segmented and personalized direct mail and online solicitations, event invitations, etc.


Salary range: $55,000-$75,000
