CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)

SANDRA AND LEON LEVINE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER, CHARLOTTE, NC.

 

Summary

The Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center (JCC) has been enriching lives for multiple generations through quality Jewish experiences. This family-oriented community center is open to everyone of all faiths and offers engaging programs and activities which meet the needs of every age group.

The JCC is located at Shalom Park, a wooded 54- acre campus which serves as the center of Jewish life in Charlotte. The campus also features a pre-school, day school, synagogues, library, camps, and other vital services.

 The JCC seeks a collaborative and open-minded leader who will provide strategic vision and direction to the JCC, while incorporating the sustainability of the larger Jewish community. Possessing excellent business acumen, this individual will oversee an $8.7 million annual operating budget and have a proven record of engaging strategic board leadership, and inspiring and motivating a high performing staff team.

About the Sandra and Leon Levine JCC

The JCC has a rich history which began as a social club in the 1930’s. Shortly after WWII, the Amity Country Club was purchased as a place for Jewish war veterans to gather with their families. In 1986, the Sandra and Leon Levine JCC opened at Shalom Park, and, today, this modern 107,000-sf facility includes a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center, indoor and outdoor aquatics, summer camp, multiple gyms, outdoor tennis complex and recreation facilities, and so much more.

Charlotte is home to North Carolina’s largest Jewish community with some 15,000 Jews. As the central address for Jewish Charlotte, Shalom Park’s campus includes Sandra and Leon Levine JCC, Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, Jewish Family Services, Temple Beth El, Temple Israel, Foundation of Shalom Park, Charlotte Pre-School, Charlotte Jewish Day School, Charlotte BBYO, and the Center for Jewish Education including the Levine-Sklut Library, and Blumenthal Educator Resources.

 CEO Competencies

Presents Visionary and Strategic Leadership

The CEO will create and clearly articulate an exciting new vision identifying key strategic opportunities which align with the JCC mission. The CEO will also have the “big picture in mind,” namely the collective success of all Shalom Park entities serving the Jewish community.

Provides Exemplary Executive Leadership

The CEO will build trusting and collaborative relationships through genuine, visible, and transparent encounters with all agency stakeholders and community partners. The CEO will be a strong visionary, who is able to address emerging issues with an open mind to change and adaptability. The CEO will promote a culture of innovation to continue the JCC’s trajectory of growth, anticipating trends and identifying opportunities in the community.

 Demonstrates Skill in Operational Management

The CEO will be responsible for day-to-day management of the JCC and will establish short- and long-range goals which are strategic, programmatic, fiscally responsible, and align with the JCC’s mission. The CEO will be accountable, and skillfully responsive to members, users, and other stakeholders. Knowledge and management skills in marketing, programming and plant management are essential.

 Creates a Culture of Philanthropy

The CEO will engage and steward donors and seek gifts of significance. Entrepreneurial and attuned to donor interests and concerns, the CEO will establish strategies and direct forward-looking practices in donor development to enhance and improve the community’s potential. Highly visible in the community, the CEO will reach out and cultivate new potential donors at all levels, including seeking grants from local and State government, foundations, and support from business partnerships.

 Displays Financial Acumen

To ensure the continued success of its “self-financed” business model, the CEO will develop a realistic annual operating budget with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors. The CEO will oversee all financial matters including long-term budgeting, ongoing financial performance, and financial strategy.

 Displays Sound Staff Management Skills

The CEO will maintain a positive culture of staff productivity, communication, collaboration, and accountability. The CEO will evaluate supervisory models for the JCC and identify professional growth opportunities to reinvest in staff.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of executive leadership, strategic and operational management experience in JCCs, other Jewish organizations, business or other not for profit sectors. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proven ability to meaningfully engage core stakeholders and community partners.
  • Ability to drive tactical and long-term strategies which are fiscally responsible and align with JCC’s mission and overall Jewish communal goals.
  • Excellence in fiscal and organizational management.
  • Ability to be an approachable, empathetic, and inspirational leader to staff, lay leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Jewish culture, practices, and tradition.
  • Proven results in past fundraising efforts, specifically with major donors.
  • Authentic executive presence as internal and external face of the organization.
  • Experience with “best in class” programming and services for all age groups.

 Compensation
