About Bonai Shalom

 

Congregation Bonai Shalom is a vibrant and growing USCJ-affiliated synagogue of over 230

family units that endeavor to be a community rich in:

About the Executive Director Position

 

The Executive Director is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Board of Directors.

The position requires flexible hours to meet the needs of the Congregation.

 

Salary range:  $105,000-$125,000 commensurate with experience

 

Who Should Apply: The ideal candidate will have seven (7) plus years of experience in Jewish organizational management, but we welcome applications from those with management experience from secular non-profit and business sectors. The successful candidate will serve in a key decision-making role within the Congregation reporting to the Board of Directors. We seek a person with emotional intelligence who can interact fluidly with membership, staff, Board of Directors and outside organizations.

 

The candidate should have a passion for building and maintaining a successful Jewish organization. The following experience and skills are required:

  • Strong management ability with an emphasis on leadership
  • A proven track record in fundraising/development
  • Excellent organizational abilities
  • Interest in/knowledge of Judaism
  • Strong writing skills
  • Financial acumen
  • Computer literacy

 

Although the precise scope of the Executive Director's responsibilities may be modified in conjunction with the Board of Directors, they will include the following essential functions:

 

  • Office and Facilities Management: Primary responsibility for managing and maintaining Bonai’s facilities, managing human resource matters for all synagogue staff, supervising administrative staff, establishing lines of reporting authority, and setting areas of responsibility.
  • Financial Management: Primary responsibility for managing Bonai Shalom’s finances with an eye toward short-term stability and long-term sustainability and growth. These responsibilities will include managing payroll, contracts, and membership dues, partnering with the Treasurer and Board to monitor finances and set budgets, and planning and implementing capital
  • Membership and Recruitment, and Volunteer Engagement: Primary responsibility for maintaining membership records and working with the Rabbi, staff and lay leaders to ensure every member is spiritually connected and supported. Build, maintain and develop relationships with existing members, new members and volunteers.
  • Fundraising and Development: Responsibility for coordinating and participating with lay and spiritual leaders to build Bonai Shalom’s fundraising capacity and success. Responsibility for implementation of existing and new fundraising strategies, oversight of all fundraising activities and any capital campaign, support of the Rabbi and lay leaders in donor preparation, and identification and application of appropriate grant opportunities.
  • Security: Primary responsibility for overseeing Bonai Shalom’s security, including adequate training for staff and lay leadership, contracting with outside security professionals, and ensuring adequate security for in-person
  • Event and Special Project Management: Primary responsibility for managing staff and lay leadership to ensure smooth operation of Bonai Shalom’s events and services. These responsibilities will include maintaining schedules, managing staffing, and supporting appropriate lay leadership.
  • Marketing and Communications: Responsibility for public relations and marketing. Oversight of volunteer or contract web master, working with Board and staff to ensure the website reflects congregational vision and mission.
  • Relations with Board of Directors: Responsibility for support of the Board in its work, drafting of Board meeting agendas in collaboration with Rabbi and Board President, drafting and final preparation of Board minutes, coordination of committee reports, and interpretation and transmission of Board policies to personnel.
  • Other Responsibilities: Assist Rabbi in the organization of pastoral needs, and coordination with families for life-cycle events. Assist Education Director in b’nai mitzvoth-related preparation and scheduling. Coordinate High Holy Days with Rabbi and appropriate volunteers, attend most Shabbat services and all major events/programs in the first year of employment. Attendance following the successful completion of year one is to be determined in conjunction with Board and Rabbi.
