Live at camp as a member of the camp community and have fun while you work this summer - at camp! Located in the beautiful Catoctin mountains of western Maryland.

We are seeking professional and experienced cooks to join our kitchen staff!

Camps Airy & Louise operate a full-service Kitchen and Dining Hall serving 3 meals and an afternoon snack each day to over 600 campers and staff. We are Looking for motivated candidates with a great attitude, and flexibility to get the job done.

Overview:

  • This positions is a Seasonal summer opportunity, start date is June 9th 2025, end date is August 10th 2025.
  • Our team of Line Cooks are responsible for providing meals for 600-700 campers and staff during the summer camp program, preparing food for 3 daily meals, snacks, special events and more.
  • Cooks will be responsible for maintaining an organized, clean and sanitized workspace in the kitchen as well as proper use, cleaning and sanitation of commercial equipment and appliances.
  • Cooks report to the Kitchen manager (KM), and Food service manager (FSM), and will also report to camp Assistant Director and Director.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Food Production and Meal Service:

  • Timely production of menu and recipes as directed by KM and FSM.
  • Complete menu items in sufficient quantities feeding 600-700 campers and staff per meal.
  • comfortable working in a high volume high paced work environment on a 6 day basis.
  • Ensure quality, appearance, and taste of all the foods prepared.
  • Cooks will be responsible to lead food prep with the assistance of international staff assigned as prep-cooks.
  • Execution of food needs outside of the dining hall meal schedule (snacks, special events, programming needs, staff meetings, etc.)
  • Execution of Grab-and-Go meals and pack-out as needed
  • Knowledge of food allergies, reading labels and identifying ingredients that may cause the allergic reaction.
  • Operate standard commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Cooks may be asked to perform all elements of food service and kitchen work including help with receiving inventory, serving on the line, etc.

2. Food Safety:

  • Check food temperatures of foods in production.
  • Reporting any issues in a timely fashion to the KM.
  • Follow proper guidelines for temperatures, labeling and storage of all ready to eat and prepped foods.
  • Preventing Cross contamination by following the First In First Out (FIFO) system, proper food storage labeling and guidelines.
  • Follow directions for proper use of leftover foods.
  • Preventing cross contamination.
  • On occasion and as directed by the KM, cooks could be instructed to mentor, teach and train international kitchen staff on various skills (knife skills, equipment/appliances, cooking temperatures, food safety, etc.)

3. Cleaning and Sanitization:

  • Ensure the kitchen is maintained in a clean and sanitary condition at all times including - equipment, utensils, appliances and food contact surfaces.
  • Assist in daily removal of trash from the kitchen work areas, end of day sweeping and mopping, etc.

Administrative:

  • Maintain SERV Safe Certification or equivalent state issued Food safety certificate.
  • Adherence to State of Maryland Health Department, Maryland Youth Camp Safety Act and the American Camp Association Standards.
  • Must pass a full background check.
  • Ability to communicate via email / text / phone and other work phone applications.
  • Multilingual is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with Kosher and Kosher style food is a plus.
  • All food service employees will be required to complete the Food service Staff training and sign a Food service Staff Policy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Able to use basic mathematics to add, subtract, multiply and divide and do calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Must be able to do light to medium work, exerting 20 - 50lbs. Frequently, performing such activities as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling, walking, pushing, lifting, etc.
  • Ability to stand for long periods throughout the day.

Additional information and Compensation:

start date June 9th

end date august 10th

Pay - 1200/week, Biweekly pay.

Housing Included and provided at Camp.

Laundry, Medical center, shuttles and other services included.

Proof of relevant / similar food service experience - REQUIRED

ServSafe or other state issued certificate equivalent - REQUIRED

Spanish is a plus.

This position is eligible for 1000$ End of summer work Completion bonus, based on performance and end of summer evaluation.

THIS POSITION IS A LIVE-AT-CAMP OPPORTUNITY, LOCATED IN MARYLAND AND CAN NOT BE PERFORMED REMOTLY.

candidates should be able and available to independently travel and stay at camp for the full Duration of the summer contract.
