Role Overview

Hillel at Davis and Sacramento is seeking a dynamic and creative Engagement Associate (EA) to join our professional team. We are looking for someone with contagious passion, entrepreneurial energy, superb organizational and communication skills, and a commitment to Jewish life. Our Hillel is the perfect place to direct innovative, cutting-edge programs for a large, diverse Jewish student body.

The EA oversees most programmatic aspects of our Hillel's activities, ensuring vibrant Jewish life on campus through program initiation and facilitation, leadership development, and personal interactions with students. They ensure that various avenues are pursued to engage Jewish students, and makes every effort to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The EA encourages students to explore their Jewish identity and develop leadership skills that last a lifetime.

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, facilitate, and evaluate a variety of programs and initiatives
  • Ensure all aspects of programming are functioning smoothly (from logistics to content) and are congruent with our overall programmatic vision
  • Coordinate program publicity (from email reminders, Facebook posts and messages, Instagram posts, coffee dates, etc.)
  • Monitor program budgets (general programming budget as well as grant budgets)
  • Recruit, train, onboard, supervise, and evaluate student leaders and interns
  • Support student-initiated programs and serve as a Jewish role model and resource to students and groups on campus
  • Identify uninvolved/under-involved student populations and develop strategies for contacting and engaging them
  • Attend numerous programs (some during evenings, weekends, and holidays)
  • Represent Hillel on campus with students, as appropriate, as well as within the wider community
  • Serve as a liaison to the local Jewish community and university organizations, especially with regards to joint efforts (University Religious Council, Interfaith Campus Council, Jewish Young adult groups, synagogues, etc.)
  • Coordinate and organize quarterly Young Adult events and Hillel Alumni events
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director to actively seek out and help prepare, apply for, and monitor grant proposals, particularly for programmatic initiatives (Hillel International Micro Grants, Interfaith America, etc.)
  • Assist the Development Manage with fundraising initiatives (Giving Tuesday, Hillel Global Giving Week, seeking donors for sponsoring programs such as Shabbat, Jewish Learning Fellowship, etc.)

On a day to day basis you will

  • Facilitate a brainstorming session with student leaders to develop creative ways to engage new students
  • Meet with colleagues to discuss exciting programming and marketing ideas
  • Have coffee with a student who has expressed interest in becoming more involved
  • Attend the Interfaith Campus Council to plan a joint community service project
  • Research and applying for a new grant for a program

What You’ve Accomplished

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Professional experience in Jewish, experiential or higher education, including a successful track record in program design, implementation and oversight
  • Passion and experience working in the Jewish community or with college students

  • Fluency and comfort with Jewish knowledge, ideas, traditions, conversations, and practices.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $40,000 to $45,000
