Executive Director Job Description

Congregation Shaarey Tikvah

 

Summary

The Executive Director manages the day-to-day operations of the synagogue. In partnership with clergy, staff, and lay leadership, the Executive Director works to ensure a vibrant future for the congregation in the areas of finance, programming, and membership.

 

Responsibilities

Operations and Staff Management

  • Hire, supervise, evaluate, and coordinate work assignments for office and custodial staff. Maintain employee records and establish personnel procedures.
  • Support officers, trustees, committee chairs, and members in planning and executing the shul’s work, including developing and implementing policies and procedures. Prepare agendas and minutes as needed. Manage ongoing committee work in partnership with lay leaders.
  • Attend Executive Committee and Board of Trustees meetings.
  • Attend committee meetings as needed or appoint appropriate staff.
  • Organize and coordinate the flow of communication among professional and office staff, volunteers, and lay leadership.

 

Facility and Security

  • Coordinate and support the Building Committee to oversee maintenance of property and infrastructure.
  • Support the Security Committee and oversee building security.
  • Manage the use of synagogue facilities by members, committees, and outside parties.

 

Finances and Vendors

  • Develop and monitor the operating and capital budgets in coordination with the Treasurer. Coordinate and support the Budget Committee and Treasurer.
  • Oversee bank accounts, make deposits, and enter journal entries.
  • Monitor budgetary income and expenses. Manage accounts payable and receivables.
  • Generate analysis and reports as needed.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate outside contractors and vendors, including IT support.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits.
  • Manage cemetery requests (Zion & Mt. Olive), payments, and burial coordination with cemetery management.

 

Community Engagement

  • Support membership and marketing committees.
  • Respond to congregant needs for life cycle events. 
  • Ensure accuracy of CST website, directory, and synagogue calendar, as well as Constant Contact and OneCall contact lists.
  • Supervise creation and distribution of regular synagogue communications.
  • Represent CST locally, regionally, and nationally in position-appropriate organizations within the USCJ, NAASE, and CASTA, and build relationships with local, regional, and national colleagues where appropriate.
  • Represent CST locally in venues including Jewish Federation of Cleveland sponsored events, day school events, and others that may arise.
  • Attend Shabbat and Holiday services and events as agreed upon with the synagogue President.
  • Support event planning committees for synagogue events

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in budget management.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Facility with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and ability to learn additional systems (i.e., Rakefet)
  • 5+ years of work experience or equivalent.
  • 4-year degree.

Salary65,000.00 - 75,000.00 Annual
