Role Overview

At the Edward and Rose Berman Hillel Jewish University Center (Hillel JUC), we are looking for a dynamic self-starter with an engaging personality to inspire Jewish students at The University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne University to dramatically increase the number of students participating in Birthright and Onward Israel through relationship based engagement. The ideal candidate for the IACT Coordinator for Israel Engagement (IACT Coordinator) will be someone with a deep understanding and love of Israel, and who is passionate about developing relationships with multiple Jewish students on campus. The IACT Coordinator will spend the majority of their time on campus or virtually meeting with students and building our Pro-Israel communities.

What You’ll Do

  • Build authentic relationships with Pittsburgh area undergraduate students
  • Develop innovative recruitment tactics for Taglit-Birthright, Onward Israel and other Israel travel opportunities for Pittsburgh undergraduate students
  • Staff Taglit-Birthright, Onward Israel and other Israel travel opportunities for Pittsburgh undergraduate students
  • Develop means of communication with students for the purposes of recruitment and marketing of new engagement opportunities. This will include strategic and creative marketing via Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat  and other social media platforms
  • Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students participating on the trips, accompanying them on their journey and developing personalized follow-up and individual Jewish/Israel plans with Taglit-Birthright alumni to deepen individuals’ connection to Jewish life
  • Work with Hillel JUC Jewish Student Life team to incorporate Birthright recruitment and follow through into the Hillel’s overall model for engagement
  • Advise Israel-focused student groups and learning opportunities
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Hillel staff team and student leadership to develop opportunities for meaningful follow through programming and engagement activities, in particular in the areas Israel education/advocacy, social justice/community service, and Jewish life and learning
  •  Maintain records of events and track attendance for measurement and ongoing progress evaluation to show growth

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 0 – 2 years of professional work experience. Experience as a volunteer or professional in a Jewish organization is a plus
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of Israeli history, culture and society
  • Experience with informal Jewish education and engagement practices
  • Comfort presenting to small and large groups of students
  • Proven leadership skills, and the capacity for effective teamwork
  • Excellent follow-through on projects, and the ability to multi-task in an organized manner

About Hillel JUC

The Hillel JUC serves an estimated 2,200 undergraduate students, graduate students and young adults.  Our 12,500 sq. foot building located at the meeting point between Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh is a hub for Jewish activities seven days a week.  The Hillel JUC has a Programming team including a part time Senior Jewish Educator, a Director of Jewish Student Life at the University of Pittsburgh, a Director of Jewish Student Life at Carnegie Mellon University, a Springboard Fellow at both Pitt and CMU, and an Ezra Fellow.  The Hillel JUC provides all staff with an exciting and meaningful working environment and more importantly an amazing group of student leaders who guide our programming and are committed to building communities of purpose on the campuses we serve.
