Congregation Beth Hatikvah (CBH) seeks an organized, passionate, and knowledgeable part-time Religious School Director to lead our Reconstructing Judaism educational programming, primarily for families with children in grades 2 through 7. Our school currently has 30+ students in the main classes, plus a meaningful series of under-5 programs throughout the year and a local teen program with the neighboring synagogues.

Essential Job Functions

  • Physically present at CBH on Saturday mornings from approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m
  • Administer CBH’s Shabbat-based Saturday morning religious school and family education programming as well as the Hebrew learning program
  • Lead the implementation of an engaging, experiential, and project-based curriculum
  • In collaboration with the Rabbi, create experiential Shabbat Services and Family Services on Saturday mornings
  • Organize Hebrew tutoring curriculum and Hebrew lessons for students in grades 4-7
  • Hire, supervise and direct teachers and Hebrew tutors
  • Ensure learning and programming are accessible to all CBH families
  • Build relationships with parents
  • Write weekly communications to school families regarding children’s experiences
  • Serve as the identified contact for teen programming for CBH and other surrounding synagogues
  • Respond to and outreach to prospective families
  • Work with CBH’s Religious School Committee and others to create and manage school policies and procedures
  • Prepare and manage the School budget, monitor income and expenses for all educational programs within the context of CBH’s overall budget

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Jewish religion and culture (knowledge of Reconstructing Judaism preferred but not required if willing to learn)
  • Has a passion for educating youth on Jewish values, history and community
  • Understands how to facilitate classroom Jewish learning for youth in a dynamic and meaningful way
  • Warm, creative and positive
  • Ability to build relationships with youth, teens, families, colleagues, and community leaders
  • A team player who enjoys collaborating with others
  • Supervisory management experience preferred
  • Administrative capability including logistics and budgeting

Other

  • Must work from CBH on Saturday mornings with occasional presence at Friday evening Shabbat services and other Jewish holidays
  • May work from home the rest of the work week with a flexible shift

Compensation

  • $42,000 annual salary for 20-25 hours each week
  • Friday night accommodations are offered for out of area candidates
  • Funding is available for continuing education
