Our fantastic education program is in need of a new team member- to work with our preschool, religious school, and high school programs.

Our Education Assistant is warm and pleasant, proficient in administrative and database work, and someone who thrives in the active environment of a busy school and synagogue. Our full time Education Assistant (EA) will partner with the  Director of Congregational Learning, Director of the Cohen Religious School, and Director and Assistant Director of the Steinberg Preschool. They will report directly to our Cohen Religious School Director. An integral part of our educational team, the EA will engage our students and help their families participate in school and move seamlessly into synagogue life. Our community values formal and experiential learning, and we look forward to welcoming this team member to every component of our community.

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, approximately 25 miles from downtown Chicago, North Suburban Synagogue Beth El is a traditional Conservative congregation of over 1000 member families. Our congregation includes the Steinberg Pre-School, Cohen Religious School, Sokol Hebrew High School/Jewish Teen Project and active cultural and continuing education and programs for adults.

Major Responsibilities for each of the school programs: 

Steinberg Preschool:

  • Assist with maintenance of student files
  • Provide reception assistance on set days
  • General administrative assistance as needed, coordinated with the needs of all schools

 Cohen Religious School:

  • Maintain a comprehensive database of students and families
  • Help maintain remote learning platforms
  • Manage registration, enrollment, student files, class/email lists, attendance records, emergency forms, allergy information, class tzedakah and CRS calendar
  • Assist with school communications
  • General administrative responsibility, coordinated with the needs of all schools
  • Website maintenance

Sokol Hebrew High School/Jewish Teen Project:

  • Assist with preparing and maintaining registration
  • Assist with school communication
  • General administrative assistance as needed, coordinated with the needs of all schools
  • Website maintenance


  • Technology proficiency – primary programs include ShulCloud, Constant Contact, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Knowledge of Jewish life, Hebrew, Jewish holidays is helpful
  • Excellent communication skills; report verbally and in writing to families and colleagues
  • Experience working in a school or synagogue setting a bonus 

Work Relationships: 

  • Overall supervision provided by the Director of the Cohen Religious School, with input from the Directors of Congregational Learning and the Steinberg Preschool
