Since its founding in 2011, over 19,000 graduate students across 103 nationalities have visited Israel with itrek, returning to campus with a more nuanced understanding and appreciation of Israel.

Position Overview

itrek seeks a Director of Development (DoD) to drive its fundraising strategy forward, oversee the day to day activities and growth of the team, and build institutional and individual donor support. The DoD will play a critical role in developing and implementing a strategic development plan, expanding itrek’s funding base of major foundations, while simultaneously growing revenue from individuals. The DoD will join itrek at an exciting time of growth, helping ensure the organization raises the financial resources to support a budget of more than $11m. 

Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer (CGO), the DoD will also work closely with the CEO, Board Members, Advisory Board members, and other key stakeholders to inspire sustained and increased philanthropic support. The DoD will be charged with building out itrek’s major gifts program, overseeing a robust grants process, developing the leadership pipeline, expanding itrek’s alumni fundraising and advancing technological solutions to facilitate growth. 

Primary Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy and Processes (33%)

  • In partnership with CGO, develop an annual fundraising plan, key goals, objectives, and metrics for department and team members
  • Build processes around the tracking of moves management, robust reportage and dashboards 
  • In tandem with the itrek Network team, build, implement and oversee campaigns and programming focused on fundraising from and with alumni leaders

Department Oversight and Execution (33%)

  • Grow and manage the Development team (currently one officer with plans to hire an additional two team members) 
  • Drive moves management processes through tracking and reports
  • Oversee grants management, including reportage to more than 20 major foundations
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create collateral that drive financial support
  • Serve as member of the itrek Leadership Team

Donor/Prospect Portfolio (33%)

  • Maintain and expand a personal portfolio of major gift donors and prospects ($1,000-$25,000 or more, depending on experience/ability)
  • Build leadership engagement opportunities for pipeline of donors, including promising itrek Leader alumni, to itrek’s three boards (e.g. fundraising committee)
  • Work closely with CGO on major institutional funder strategies and serve as point of contact with several senior institutional contacts, some of whom represent foundations contributing in the six and seven figures
  • Organize virtual and in-person fundraising events and meetings

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including relationship-building with and direct solicitations of high-level donors of at least five figures
  • Passion for itrek’s mission
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills in English with the ability to adjust messaging to varying audiences
  • Impressive writing and editing skills along with strong attention to detail
  • Expert project manager, adept at multitasking and a driver of bottom line results and outcomes
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial and flexible with the ability to work independently and collaborate with professional colleagues and volunteer leadership
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM system preferred
  • Outside of COVID-times, this position requires travel (approximately 10% of time) throughout the year
