The Director of Youth, Family, and Young Adult Engagement at CBS is responsible for leading programming that is targeted at both the youth of our community (ages 0 – 18), their parents, and other younger adults in the community.  Whether delivered through established international programs (e.g., USY) or through programming developed uniquely for the CBS community, the focus is to create stronger connections amongst the participants and the participants with the synagogue as a whole.

  • Programming for Youth and Family
    • Ages 0-4 - Develop and facilitate monthly (or more frequent) programming for pre-elementary youth. Programming should be largely focused on parent / child events and engage with both synagogue members and the broader community.
    • Ages 5-13 (Chaverim & Gesher/Kadima)- Develop and facilitate monthly (or more frequent) programming for elementary and middle school youth. Programming should be a mix of both parent / child and child only events.  Grouping of participants by age and program should by appropriate for the developmental abilities of the children.
    • Ages 14-18 (USY)- Develop and facilitate weekly programing for high school youth. Programming should include weekly lounge night programs (held on Thursday evenings) and monthly larger scale programming.
      • Larger scale programs may include CHUSY regional conventions, other programs developed by CHUSY region, or programs developed jointly with other USY chapters.
      • Lead board development activities for the CBS USY Board, including attending meetings, as scheduled by the CBS USY Board President.
      • Oversee youth fundraising to support Tikun Olam (USY’s tzedakah program) as part of USY programming.
      • Support CHUSY regional programming targeted at participants in this age range through promotion of the event to members of our community and staffing of the event as requested by the region.


  • Ages Post College through 30’s - Programming for Young Adults
    • Develop quarterly (or more frequent) programming for young adults who are members of CBS or the broader community.
    • Coordinate the engagement of college age alumni of the CBS Youth Program through programming or other means. Support clergy outreach of college students.


  • Director Responsibilities
    • Hire and supervise up to three family/youth staff, with portfolios as defined by the Director of Youth, Family, and Young Adult Engagements in consultation with the Youth (or other relevant) VP and the Executive Director. Certain responsibilities outlined in this job description may be transitioned to other members of the youth staff, though ultimate responsibility for the success of the program will be the responsibility of the Director.
    • Implement proper policies and practices to foster a healthy and safe environment for all staff and participants.
    • Register as a CHUSY regional staff member and satisfactorily complete the required background check and youth protection training.
    • Abide by international USY staffing ratios for programming with youth, or other policies as set by CBS.
    • Facilitate the CBS Youth Endowment Fund with other relevant staff (e.g., Controller) and lay leaders.
    • Oversee the CBS Youth Snack Cart during religious school on Tuesday afternoons.


  • Responsibilities of CBS Professional Staff
    • Attend weekly CBS professional staff meetings and monthly CBS Board of Trustees meetings.
    • Attend CBS Youth Commission Meetings as scheduled by the Youth (or other relevant) Vice President.
    • Attend (or delegate attendance) to CHUSY Regional Youth Professional Meetings, as called by the CHUSY Regional Youth Director.
    • Respond to requests for information and engagement from the CHUSY Regional Youth Director as needed to maintain CBS’ involvement in CHUSY region.
    • Prepare yearly budget with Youth (or other relevant) VP and Executive Director. Oversee and track expenses of the Youth Department utilizing appropriate fiduciary responsibility.
    • Work in a collaborative manner with other CBS staff and lay leaders, be a self-starter, and develop creative ideas for implementation.
    • Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities including attendance at the annual JYDA conference.
    • Represent the synagogue at community programs and play an active role in synagogue community wide events.


  • High Holiday Services – In partnership with the Director of Education assist and manage high holiday services. This includes assisting our Religious School Director in implementing High Holiday services for our youth community (ages 0 – 12) during both Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.  As well as working with the Executive Director in working with volunteers & security in managing logistics at offsite location.

Full Time Role - Programming will typically be on Nights and Weekends – will require up to 4 full weekends each year (Friday mid-day – Sunday) to be traveling with CHUSY regional programming
