Director of Education, Curriculum, and Programming

 

Position Summary:

The Education Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all educational programs and initiatives at the Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance and Education. This individual will play a critical role in advancing the museum’s mission of educating the public on the history and lessons of the Holocaust while promoting tolerance, diversity, and human rights. The Education Director will engage with educators, students, scholars, and the broader community to create impactful, thought-provoking learning experiences.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Program Development & Implementation

  • Design, develop, and implement educational programs, workshops, and curricula for diverse audiences, including students, educators, and community members.
  • Oversee school programs, docent-led tours, teacher training workshops, and digital learning initiatives.
  • Develop and facilitate programs that promote dialogue on tolerance, social justice, and human rights.
  • Ensure educational programming aligns with relevant state education standards for regional partners.

Curriculum & Resource Development

  • Create age-appropriate lesson plans, teacher guides, and digital resources on Holocaust history, genocide education, and tolerance.
  • Collaborate with educators to integrate museum resources into school curricula.
  • Oversee the development of educational materials, including multimedia content and exhibitions and related resources.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Establish and maintain relationships with K-12 schools, universities, cultural organizations, and community partners.
  • Develop outreach initiatives to engage diverse communities, including underserved populations.
  • Represent the museum at conferences, education fairs, and public speaking engagements.

Professional Development & Training

  • Develop and lead teacher training workshops and professional development seminars on Holocaust education and tolerance.
  • Train and supervise museum docents, volunteers, and educators.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for Holocaust and human rights education.

Program Evaluation & Research

  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through feedback, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Stay current with Holocaust scholarship, education trends, and best practices in museum education.
  • Conduct research and contribute to local publications, grants, and educational initiatives, as possible.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Holocaust Studies, History, Museum Studies, or a related field 
  • Strong knowledge of Holocaust history, genocide studies, human rights education, and tolerance initiatives.
  • Experience working with diverse audiences, including students, teachers, and community groups.
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
  • Experience managing staff, volunteers, and program budgets.
  • Proficiency in technology, including educational software, digital resources, and social media.

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range $68,000 – 73,000 to start, dependent on education and experience.
  • Health insurance, generous paid time off, and professional development support.

This position is for an in-person, on site role at the Museum located in Suffern, NY.
