Description

Temple Beth Am, a vibrant, growing Reform synagogue in Framingham, MA, is seeking a warm, experienced, motivated 6th grade religious school teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.   Temple Beth Am is a welcoming, supportive workplace, where the staff work collaboratively to support each other.  Religious school teachers are supervised by Cantor David Wolff, lower school director, and are supported by the Rabbi and Cantor of Temple Beth Am, both of whom are recent graduates of Hebrew College in Newton.  Teachers also have classroom support from our corps of high school-aged madrichim (aides), and our religious school administrator.  Qualified college students are welcome to apply.

Temple Beth Am is seeking a 6th grade teacher.  6th grade meets Sundays from 9-11 AM, and Wednesdays from 4-6 PM.  If you are interested, but only available on one of our weekly school days, please contact Cantor Wolff.  The 6th grade teacher is expected to teach both Hebrew and Judaics.  The teacher should be comfortable with prayer-book Hebrew.

Compensation is $45-$55/hour, commensurate with experience.  For each 2-hour teaching session, teachers are compensated for an additional 30 minutes of planning time.  Teachers are also compensated for monthly staff meetings, and a day of planning/set-up time at the beginning of the year.  Temple Beth Am religious school is closed for both the beginning and end of all local school breaks, and for all Jewish holidays.  The school year runs from September - May.

Applicants should be excited to positively engage students with Jewish learning!  Applicants should have teaching experience, and a general knowledge of Jewish customs, holidays, and prayers.  Teachers are expected to prepare lesson plans for each class, and to write brief weekly emails to the families in their class.

Temple Beth Am religious school puts the needs of the students first.  We believe that positive Jewish engagement is essential to effective Jewish education.  To support Jewish engagement and learning, we expose students to the same essential Jewish topics each year, in each classroom, in different, age-appropriate ways.  Essential topics include Shabbat, Yom Kippur (Repentance), Passover (the Exodus story), the Creation story, Israel, prayer, and Tikkun Olam/social justice.  Our Hebrew curriculum is focused on prayer-book proficiency, tailored to our B'nai Mitzvah requirements.

To apply, please send a resume to Cantor David Wolff, lower school director, at [email protected]
