U.S. MEDIA RESEARCH ANALYST: Washington D.C.-Area


CAMERA seeks to hire a U.S. Media Analyst, in the Washington D.C. metro area, to enhance our
capacity to monitor, engage with, and respond to US media outlets and their coverage of Israel, the
Middle East, and antisemitism. Each successful candidate will be passionately interested in Israel
and the Middle East and in the vital work of ensuring those subjects are presented accurately in
influential news outlets. The individual must be a strong writer, rigorous researcher and someone
who collaborates well with dedicated professionals in multiple departments on vital issues related
to Israel and antisemitism. The position entails monitoring, analyzing, writing, and communicating
continuously with the media and the public. The researcher will report to CAMERA’s Supervisor,
Media Research & Analysis Program, Washington, DC.


Responsibilities of the Position

  • Monitoring various American media outlets for accuracy and context in coverage of Israel,
    the Arab-Israel conflict, Zionism, and antisemitism.
  • Maintaining continuous, close awareness of breaking news developments.
  • Researching the accuracy of media reports, using a variety of sources and research tools.
  • Communicating with journalists, academics, specialists, NGOs and government o??icials
    regarding coverage — either to elicit facts or to challenge misinformation.
  • Writing articles, Op-Eds, blog posts, speeches.
  • Lecturing to community and campus groups.
  • Collaborating with other CAMERA sta?? in the Media Research and Analysis Department,
    including in the Spanish, Hebrew and Arabic-language programs, and with sta?? in other
    CAMERA departments.
  • Responding to public information requests and concerns about coverage of Israel, the Arab-
    Israel conflict, antisemitism, and related topics.
  • Attend events, monitor, and collaborate as needed with the myriad of press, interest groups,
    and policymaking bodies based in Washington D.C., including think tanks, other NGOs, and
    relevant legislative bodies overseeing national media and other areas under CAMERA’s
    purview

Required Skills and Experience

  • Commitment to the goals of CAMERA which aim to expose and correct media
    misinformation and bias against Israel and anti-Jewish bigotry.
  • Self-motivated and capable of recognizing issues of concern to CAMERA
  • Knowledge of the history of Israel and the Middle East.
  • Knowledge of journalistic practices.
  • Research experience, including with news databases.
  • Strong analytical writing skills, to include the ability to write about complex topics for a
    broad audience in a popularly accessible fashion.
  • Able to pitch and place op-eds, letters to the editor, and essays to both national and
    specialized publications and journals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, necessary for interaction with members of the media, sta?? and
    the public.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for lectures and meetings.
  • Knowledge of PPT and other presentation formats a plus.
  • Skilled at taking shorthand notes
