Temple Beth Tikvah

Temple Beth Tikvah, a Reform Jewish congregation in Wayne, NJ, seeks a full-time Temple Administrator to serve as a key partner with volunteer leadership and clergy, and as a leader of our staff. We seek an organized, engaging, welcoming, intelligent and inspiring professional who enjoys active Jewish living, thinks strategically, and seeks consensus and inclusion among diverse individuals. Primary responsibilities are focused on operations and membership in-reach and outreach.

Relevant Experience (not required to have all of the following):

  • General business and operations knowledge and oversight
  • Program development and management
  • Interaction with clients and/or volunteer recruiting and management
  • Membership acquisition and development
  • Working knowledge of Jewish holidays, rituals, culture and traditions
  • Strong skills in MS Excel, MS Office, Google Office, and Zoom
  • Managed or used database software (we use ShulCloud)
  • Fundraising

 

Core Responsibilities

1. Ensure processes are well defined and executed effectively across major operations (priorities are set by the rabbi, presidents and the board)

     Communications & marketing

  • Plan communications and marketing efforts
  • Build awareness of programs, and maximize attendance / participation

     Membership

  • Coordinate with membership chair to plan and manage efforts to attract and retain members; promote TBT in the community
  • Oversee new member on-boarding process
  • Ensure membership data base is up to date
  • Monitor / ensure successful annual enrollment process

Fundraising

  • Partner with temple lay leaders and volunteers to plan and manage fundraising efforts to achieve/exceed goals

High Holy Days (with support from volunteers/staff)

  • Plan and manage, ticket process, memorial books, and other components
  • In partnership with Ritual Committee's designated HHD Chair, oversee/coordinate congregant honors - confirm, distribute materials, oversee on-site tracking process during Holy Days
  • Oversee set up of facility and ensure smooth High Holy Days operations (e.g. change of books, parking, security)

2. Oversee/coordinate the office team - ensure timely, efficient, effective operations:

  • Office coverage
    • Ensure on-site team coverage e.g., (answer phones/monitor building/support members)
  • Finance operations (not content)
    • Monthly processes (bill payments, reports)
    • Annual processes (Budget, membership invoices, member tax statements)
    • Address arrearage in partnership with Temple leadership
  • Building maintenance & security
    • oversee janitorial services, repairs, building upgrades
    • ensure security staff as needed
  • Liaison to Renters
    • Ensure TBT is meeting its contractual requirements regarding facilities / access / safety

3. Work closely with the Director of Education to ensure operations are working effectively, including:

  • Calendars / activity plans
  • Parent / family communications
  • Budgeting
  • Registration process

4. Other expectations:

  • Attend and support most weekly Erev Shabbat (Friday night) Services and approximately 10 Saturday morning services and Shabbaton programs
  • Leadership & Committee Participation
    • Participate in executive board and board meetings
    • Participate in critical committee meetings (e.g., religious school committee, ritual committee) & ensure successful execution of temple activities, as requested

Details:

Reports to:            Reports to the Rabbi; works in collaboration with the President(s) 

Coordinates with:  Cantor, Director of Education, Special Events Coordinator, volunteer leadership

Supervises:           Administrative Staff (e.g.  administrative assistant, bookkeeper, custodial staff, etc.)

Job Location:        Wayne, New Jersey

Job Type:              Full time (includes most Friday evenings and some Saturday mornings)

Salary & Benefits: The Temple Administrator's salary range will be $50,000 - $60,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits Package will include paid vacation time (PTO), time off for many secular and some Jewish holidays.
