The American Friends of the Lone Soldier (AFLS) raises resources and awareness to assist lone soldiers in Israel. Lone soldiers are individuals who have made Aliyah by their own choice or are Israeli-born but do not have the support of a family. They courageously serve the State of Israel without the safety net of a family's support, embodying the spirit of dedication and sacrifice.

AFLS supports the work of multiple centers throughout Israel which have been established to meet the needs of lone soldiers. These centers provide lone soldiers with meals, housing, programming and emotional support and advice before, during, and after their army service.

A successful candidate will be a creative and motivated self-starter, and will manage donor prospecting, plan ongoing donor/prospect events and meetings, and build relationships with donors across the US. Ideally, this candidate will bring 5-8 years of direct fundraising and programmatic engagement experience with a demonstrated ability to manage relationships, solicit major gifts, and plan and execute special events. Some travel throughout the US as well as occasional travel to Israel are expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist AFLS in the creation of an annual campaign plan targeting individual donors, organizations and foundations
  • Cultivate, build, and solidify relationships with new and established contributors, organizations and foundations
  • Organize and implement fundraising and awareness-building programs, including speaker tours throughout the US and virtual Zoom programming
  • Help analyze historic patterns of giving to develop strategies to increase contributions and secure new gifts from individuals, organizations and foundations
  • Assist in the writing and editing of English language marketing materials
  • Help create giving incentives and programs to encourage giving at all levels and for all types of donors
  • Conduct donor research to identify individual prospects, organizations and foundations with the most potential for supporting AFLS
  • Draft personalized solicitation letters, thank you notes, and proposals for foundations
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date prospect and donor records in the organization's CRM system (Salesforce)
  • Work with the AFLS’s operation’s team to ensure that donors promptly receive acknowledgment letters and receipts
  • Assist in the support of AFLS board activities and in the identification and recruitment of new board members for AFLS 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years of direct fundraising and programmatic engagement experience
  • Demonstrated success closing major gifts of five and six-figures
  • Professional, resourceful, and entrepreneurial
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills
  • High-level strategic thinking and efficiency planning
  • Able to meet goals and objectives in a timely manner
  • Capable of establishing and nurturing relationships at all levels
  • Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Familiar with the Jewish philanthropic landscape in North America
  • Passion for assisting lone soldiers in the IDF
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and donor management software; Salesforce experience a plus
  • Able to staff occasional evening and weekend programs

Salary

  • The salary for this position starts at $90,000 and will be determined by the skillset and relevant experience of the candidate

This position is remote. We prefer candidates based in the Northeast but will consider strong candidates based elsewhere in the US.
