About the Position

The Science Teacher at Wise School works on a two-person science team. Together, you will design and implement a dynamic and hands-on curriculum, differentiate learning as needed, and proactively communicate with parents. You will create and maintain a nurturing and inquiry-based classroom environment, while implementing positive behavior support and classroom management.  A supportive administrative team will provide needed guidance and professional development.

Job Responsibilities

• Teach science class, aligned to NGSS standards, in the science lab to assigned grade levels.
• Support each student’s differentiated academic needs, helping all students access the curriculum.
• Consistently provide feedback to students regarding their progress in science, including grading and conferencing with parents.
• Collaborate with each of the corresponding grade-level teams, as well as other specialist teachers, to plan curriculum and programming, and implement best practices for teaching and learning.
• Participate on the STEAM committee, meeting regularly to collaboratively plan STEAM Day, and to integrate the STEAM disciplines into multiple areas of the school curriculum.
• Organize science-related grade-level field trips.
• Coordinate annual 6th grade Science Fair.
• Incorporate school garden into science curriculum.
• Depending on scheduling, may be asked to teach an additional grade-level class related to general studies.
• Attend and actively participate in all-staff meetings and relevant trainings.
• Attend school functions that support the school’s mission and vision, both during and outside the normal school day.
• As a key staff member in our religious educational institution, role-model the tenets of our faith on a daily basis to our members and the broader Temple community; participate in transmitting the expectations and values of our faith, playing a critical and essential role in the Temple’s ability to minister to the daily needs of our students and members.  
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• College degree and current CA teaching credential.
• Science teaching experience preferred.
• Elementary experience preferred.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Knowledge of and willingness to support the ongoing sustainability efforts of the school and Temple.
• Empathetic to the needs and differing dynamics of families who attend the school.
• Strong interpersonal relationship-building skills; team-oriented.

• Flexibility and “can do” attitude toward supporting colleagues as needed.

• Strong organizational skills; self-motivated and responsible.
