Temple Israel is a congregation of approximately 300 families: a member of the Union for Reform Judaism. We are a Temple Family which seeks to engage its members in meaningful Jewish expression and community.
The Director of Outreach and Engagement supports the vision and functions of temple life with a high regard for detail and quality. This individual should possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. This individual will support the outreach and engagement of our community in close partnership with our Director of Congregational Life. This position is part of the Temple Israel staff. As a team member, this person will work closely with the Clergy Team, staff and Temple Israel members.
Temple Israel is embarking on our NextDor new building project. We will be displaced, working from temporary locations for the coming 2 years. This time in transition will require creativity and patience on the part of our staff and leadership.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Membership, Outreach and Engagement
(in partnership with the Director of Congregational Life)
· Promote and welcome new member recruitment
· Maintain membership through establishing, supporting, and creating relationships.
· Build and maintain favorable relationships with parents, partners, children, and members of the multi-generational Temple Family.
· Build relationships in the greater Tulsa community.
· Engage unaffiliated families through events, community partnerships, one-on-one meetings, and cultivation of relationships.
· Meet Jew, and non-Jew alike, where they are on their spiritual journey.
· Cater to the changing mindset of young professionals and young families.
· Build and develop the Temple Israel young adult community through one-on-one and demographic-specific programs and events.
· Be a face of Temple Israel to the greater Tulsa community.
· Host Events outside of building to connect and engage Jewishly.
Event Coordinating
(in partnership with Director of Congregational Life)
· Plan, schedule, budget, and implement congregational events;
· Plan and/or coordinate event meals.
· Facilitate room set-ups and seating.
· Be a resource for lifecycle receptions including room set-up, caterers, day-of coordination, etc.
· Support and implementation of auxiliary, religious school, interfaith events.
Temple Israel Staff Member
· Serve as a member of the Temple Israel Family.
· Serve as a Staff member; participate in the leadership of the congregation
· Support front office administration when needed.
· Attend Temple Israel Board meetings when requested.
· Utilize Union for Reform Judaism programming resources.
· Support Temple Israel’s auxiliaries, committees, and volunteers.
· Attend major Temple Israel functions, worship, and events.
· Represent Temple Israel in the greater Tulsa community.
· Participate in conventions and learning for professional development.
· Be committed to one’s own professional growth.
The Director of Outreach and Engagement is a permanent, full-time position. Availability and schedule will be flexible, including weekends. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. Experience with programming in congregations or other Jewish and/or non-profit settings preferred.
