Executive Director/Co-Religious School Position Description

Temple Shalom of the South Bay is seeking an experienced, personable, and capable manager to serve as our Executive Director/Co-Religious School Director. The Director is responsible for managing the Temple’s administrative and fiscal operations, expanding membership, and planning programs/events. We are looking for an organized, fast-learner, and strategic thinker who will be the face of our Temple to our current congregants, our Board of Directors, and our South Bay community.
Our Temple reflects Progressive Judaism with same faith and interfaith families. We strive to provide an inclusive environment where people feel comfortable worshiping and learning together.

Executive Director Responsibilities:
• Provide initial contact with prospective and new members
• Update and maintain membership records using Shul Cloud database
• Work with membership committee to plan strategic growth
• Interact with members at social events (i.e. be a good “Schmoozer”)

Communications and Marketing
• Respond to all emails in a timely manner
• Create content for the weekly e-bulletin using Constant Contact
• Update and maintain Temple website
• Manage all print marketing, e.g., Beach Reporter, High Holiday Banners
• Manage all social media marketing including Instagram & Facebook

Event Planning
• Plan and execute the Temple calendar
• Responsible for coordinating monthly Shabbat services
• Plan and manage High Holiday services and Passover Seder including staffing, marketing, staging, and logistics

• Maintain fiscal records including payroll and reimbursements
• Present monthly financial reports at Board meetings
• Prepare annual budget and monitor income and expenses throughout the year
• Collect and manage membership and donor commitments

• Supervise all office systems and technology
• Coordinate all Board Meetings
• Manage the day-to-day operations, including coordinating facility use with the landlord
• Purchase and maintain an inventory of supplies

Religious School Co-Director Responsibilities:

• Work in conjunction with Rabbi as Co-Directors
• Communicate with teachers regarding all scheduling and meetings
• Hire, train and replace staff as necessary
• Manage enrollment process and education program related budgets
• Create and maintain class lists
• Hire and organize teen helpers/volunteers for the year
• Coordinate School Holiday programs
• Ensure teachers have proper materials in classroom
• Be “tech” person if needed

Qualifications Needed
• Minimum three years of experience in:
o Event planning
o Building annual budgets
o Database management
o Client Relations
o Development

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Extremely tech-literate: can pick up new systems/websites very quickly
• Ability to build partnerships with Clergy, Board, committees, staff and volunteers
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge and experience with Excel, Canva, and Constant Contact
• Ability to foster a warm and welcoming environment
• Knowledge of Jewish culture and rituals

Reports To: Temple President and Rabbi
Hours: This is a full-time exempt position at the Temple’s office in Hermosa Beach, CA. Some scheduled evening and weekend work is required. Working from home can be coordinated with Temple leadership. Position to begin in January.
Compensation: We offer a salary commensurate with qualifications, a free family membership, two weeks paid vacation per year, and a rewarding and flexible work environment.
