Role Overview

Indiana University Hillel is home to over 4,000 Jewish undergraduate students and YOU have the opportunity to get to know them and especially those in Greek life! By joining IU Hillel as the Engagement Associate focusing on the Greek community, you’ll build one on one relationships with students in the Greek community, hang out at fraternities and sororities to meet and engage students, teach a University course about Leadership in Greek life, partner with students to plan programs in fraternities and sororities, around campus and at Hillel, and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life and build a strong Jewish community in Greek life. The main focus of this role will be engaging with the IU Greek community (Indiana University boasts a tremendous number of students participating in Greek life consisting of 2000+ Jewish students, 4 Jewish fraternities, and 2 Jewish sororities).

In this role you will build hundreds of student relationships, work collaboratively and independently to plan innovative and meaningful Jewish programs, and develop the future generation of Jewish leaders. The Engagement Associate focusing on Greek life will (in addition to working with Greek life), support some of our other student groups, play a role in our Jewish learning opportunities, and get to pursue passion projects!

This is a student facing position with an emphasis in being a staff mentor to students in Greek life on all student programming, communications and social media efforts.

What You’ll Do

Greek Life Engagement Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an engagement plan under the supervision of the Program Director to strategically build a minimum of 500 relationships with students in Greek life who are uninvolved with IU Hillel.
  • Manage, lead, and support the growth of the Greek Jewish Council Executive Board, President, and committees.
  • ??Build relationships with key partners, including Greek life faculty and advisors, to expand Hillel’s presence in the overall Greek life community. 
  • Facilitate, lead, and partner with other Hillel staff to develop leadership workshops and Jewish learning for IU Hillel’s 2 credit IU course Seminar in Greek Leadership Training: Jewish Emerging Leaders
  • Work with Greek students to implement and plan innovative, relevant, and engaging Jewish initiatives to bridge the gap between Hillel and Greek life.

Engagement Responsibilities  

  • Meet with different target student groups and demographics on campus to engage them, identify their interests and connect to opportunities (e.g. leadership roles at Hillel)
  • Collaborate with our Israel Program Director’s,  student leaders, and colleagues to help recruit for our immersion programs such as Birthright and Alternative Spring Break.  
  • Plan and facilitate regular student intern and committee meetings with student leaders. 
  • Supervise student interns and student leaders who are responsible for engaging their peers in Jewish life on campus.

General Staff Responsibilities

  • Strengthen and support student leadership teams and student groups
  • Co-facilitate Jewish Learning Opportunities, such as X170s and JLF.
  • Maintain program attendance records for measurement and ongoing evaluation purposes.
  • Participate as a member of the IU Hillel staff team in major programs, Shabbats, and holidays.
  • Represent the IU Hillel Foundation on campus with students, parents, alumni, faculty and administration as appropriate, as well as with the wider community.
  • It is expected for this role to be on the staff rotation for Shabbats and holidays. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of post college work experience
  • Candidates must have been in Greek life during their college career (preferably at a large university with a strong Greek community)
  • Confidence initiating and running programs, and comfortability asking questions.
  • The ability to identify your own interests and students’ interests and find where they intersect to create innovative new programming. 
  • Exemplary time management skills, including the capacity to juggle competing priorities and deadlines, and to remain flexible within an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • Desire to motivate student leaders to engage their peers, deepen their Jewish identities, and think innovatively about program content and marketing
  • Eagerness to build relationships with diverse demographics of college students 
  • A team-oriented approach to work, a self-directed work ethic, a sense of humor, an ability to connect with and appreciate diverse personalities, and a willingness to take risks and learn from each new challenge or success. 

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $40,000 - $45,000.
