Middle School Humanities (English & Social Studies) Teacher

 

Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is a warm, inclusive Jewish Day School that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in General and Judaic studies. We inspire our students to be engaged, independent learners who embrace Jewish values and practices and strive with confidence and compassion to better the world.

We are seeking a highly qualified, passionate, and collaborative teacher of humanities. Candidate will be a role model who can help foster our students’ social, emotional, and academic growth, implement a variety of instructional strategies, and who has familiarity with the latest educational models to enhance student learning for the 21st century.

 

The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English and/or History, Humanities Education, Secondary Education, and/or equivalent
  • An understanding of effective Humanities instruction and content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of child/adolescent development and how social emotional factors impact learning
  • An ability to build relationships with students that foster a positive classroom environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and take academic risks
  • A belief that all children can learn at high levels

Schechter Bergen Humanities Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Teach a full course load of humanities classes to middle school students including planning and implementing lessons using the curriculum and school pacing guides
  • Engage in a cycle of assessment to instruction by planning for formative assessments that provide students with multiple options for demonstrating their learning
  • Maintain accurate and consistent records of evidence of students learning
  • Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, emails, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development
  • Collaborate with learning specialists to create plans of support for identified students
  • Serve as an Advisor to a small group of students in middle school utilizing the Responsive Classroom Advisory Program
  • Engage with school based coaches and fellow educators in team meetings to continuously learn and grow as an educator

Salary $55,000-$65,000
