Director of Membership and Adult Life
This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position with a salary range of $58,000–$62,000, commensurate with experience.

As we look toward our 50th anniversary, we are strengthening our approach to membership engagement, philanthropy, and community programming to ensure that Shir Ami remains the Heart of Reform Judaism in Bucks County for generations to come.

Position Overview
As a key member of Shir Ami’s leadership team, the Director of Membership and Adult Life will play a central role in growing and strengthening our congregational community. This position will drive membership outreach, deepen member engagement, oversee adult programming, and provide essential support for development initiatives. This role requires a proactive relationship-builder who thrives on fostering connections and creating opportunities for meaningful Jewish experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Membership & Engagement (30%)

  • Serve as the first point of contact for prospective members, providing personalized outreach and guidance through the membership process.
  • Manage the membership sales and engagement funnel, tracking inquiries, follow-ups, and onboarding touchpoints.
  • Develop and implement strategies to welcome and integrate new members, ensuring a smooth transition into the community including 2-3 events per year. 
  • Lead the ShirAmbassadors Program, empowering members to serve as outreach liaisons and community connectors.
  • Support the work of ShirGroups, our small group engagement initiative.
  • Work closely with the Membership & Engagement Committee, providing leadership, insights, and support to enhance membership initiatives.

Development & Fundraising Support (10%)

  • Assist in planning and coordinating 4-5 small-scale donor stewardship events annually, including appreciation gatherings and social outings 

Major Events (30%)

  • Serve as a key planner and support lead for High Holy Days, working with staff, clergy, and lay leaders to coordinate logistics, membership engagement, and community outreach.
  • Provide direct program oversight for our major tentpole events and other important programs, including:
    • Spirits in the Sukkah
    • Rock Shabbat
    • Purim Celebrations 
    • Annual Meeting
    • End of Year BBQ

Active Adult Programming (30%)

  • Develop and oversee meaningful and consistent programming for Shir Ami’s Active Adults community with special events and weekly programs such as:
    • Card games and social gatherings
    • Educational lectures and guest speakers
    • Jewish-themed film screenings
    • Wellness and lifelong learning initiatives
    • Small discussion groups
  • Work closely with our SHAAK committee and Director of Education to strategize, plan, and continually evaluate and expand active adult programming.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Passion for community engagement, relationship-building, and Jewish communal life.
  • Experience in membership outreach, development, event planning, or nonprofit leadership preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple initiatives.
  • Experience working with volunteers and committees to enhance membership efforts.
  • Familiarity with CRM software (ShulCloud or similar) and event management tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Reform Judaism and synagogue life is preferred but not required.

Work Hours & Flexibility

This full-time role offers a flexible and dynamic work environment, recognizing that community engagement often happens outside traditional office hours. Shir Ami’s office hours are Monday 9 AM – 1 PM, Tuesday–Thursday 9 AM – 5 PM, and Friday 9 AM – 4 PM, but this position requires regular presence outside of these hours depending on the programming schedule.

As a lifestyle position, we prioritize work-life balance with true scheduling flexibility. When evening or weekend events require your presence, you can adjust your hours accordingly—starting later the next day or using comp time as needed.
