Lower School/Middle School Judaics Teacher

 

Gross Schechter Day School is seeking a dynamic, creative and highly motivated Jewish Studies and Hebrew teacher for Lower School with optional Middle School teaching.

Gross Schechter Day School, based in Pepper Pike, Ohio, is a Jewish day school serving nearly 260 students in infant care through 8th grade. Gross Schechter is a diverse family, representing more than 20 synagogues and minyanim, with values based in Conservative Judaism. Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hebrew, Jewish Studies, Education, or a related discipline
  • Fluency in Hebrew language
  • Demonstrated success in teaching elementary and/or middle school
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction techniques to effectively work with a range of learners
  • Demonstrates creativity in thinking and teaching sacred texts, Jewish values, holidays, Jewish history, T'fillah, Hebrew, and Israel.
  • Highly energetic, engaging, warm and caring personality



Essential Functions of the Job:

 

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials and assessments to facilitate active learning utilizing the curriculum.
  • Encourage and monitor progress of individual students and use various information and data to adjust teaching strategies
  • Prepare and complete all required reports and maintain accurate and complete records of student progress
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress
  • Maintain an orderly classroom environment based on respect and trust
  • Participate in department and school professional development, meetings and activities
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues through email, newsletters and over phone.
  • A desire to take an active role in a Jewish school community
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting events, clubs and student organizations

 

Other Functions of the Job but not limited to the following:

 

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Must report to work on time, be punctual and meet all deadlines
  • Perform all other work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
