Background
American Friends of Assuta Ashdod Hospital (AFAAH) is a 501(c)(3) supporting the new Samson Assuta Ashdod University Hospital in Israel. Samson Assuta Ashdod University Hospital opened its doors in 2017 to provide optimal and innovative medical care to underserved communities in Israel’s southern periphery.
A 300-bed hospital, Assuta Ashdod serves 500,000 residents of Ashdod and the surrounding region – veteran Israelis and new immigrants from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The medical staff, mirroring this diversity, is a melting pot of Zionistic professionals from all parts of the globe who joined doctors and nurses from the Israeli healthcare system to provide a game changing impact for a population previously without a local hospital.
Located 25 miles from the Gaza Strip, it features a unique bomb-shelter design protecting patients and staff from missiles, and biological and chemical warfare.
As Israel’s newest hospital, Assuta Ashdod brings the best modern medicine has to offer, including state-of-the-art technology and equipment and cutting-edge approaches. The hospital is now expanding to 650 beds to help meet the serious shortage of patient beds.
AFAAH is committed to help bring medical innovation and compassionate care to this population.
