Salary Range: $135,000 – $150,000 annually, depending on experience

Position Overview

The Rabbi leads our internal L’Dor VaDor Synagogue and provides spiritual, religious, educational, and emotional support to SFCJL residents, patients, and their families. The Rabbi also serves as a spiritual resource to staff, helping foster a culture of compassion, connection, and respect. This role plays a vital part in promoting whole-person care and enhancing the spiritual life of our diverse and dynamic senior community.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide compassionate, spiritual, and religious support to residents, patients, and families across all levels of care.
  • Assess and respond to individual spiritual and religious needs to enhance wellbeing.
  • Serve as a liaison to families, offering guidance and communication on spiritual matters.
  • Lead weekly Shabbat services and officiate Jewish holiday observances tailored to meet residents’ cultural and cognitive needs.
  • Conduct memorial services and other life-cycle rituals as requested.
  • Visit hospitalized or homebound residents in person, virtually, or by phone.
  • Provide Jewish educational classes and study opportunities for older adults.
  • Collaborate with Life Enrichment and leadership to sustain a mission-aligned Jewish Life program.
  • Supervise and mentor spiritual care interns; maintain partnerships with rabbinical seminaries and CPE programs.
  • Engage in interfaith collaborations and represent SFCJL within the broader Bay Area spiritual care community.

Requirements

  • Rabbinic ordination from an accredited seminary.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in chaplaincy, congregational leadership, or community-based religious work.
  • Experience working with older adults and familiarity with end-of-life spiritual care.
