Valley Outreach Synagogue is Seeking a Teen Specialist and Administrative Assistant.

Teen life and intergenerational engagement are thriving at Valley Outreach Synagogue! Our teens gather regularly in students’ homes to explore issues of personal life and society through a Jewish lens, connect with Jewish peers, clergy, mentors, and senior congregants while contributing to the well-being of the community at large. Intergenerational relationships are an integral aspect of teen life at VOS with ‘Better Together’ - an innovative program that fosters meaningful connections between teens and senior congregants.

Teen & Intergenerational Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement creative programming for middle and high school teens to make Judaism meaningful, fun, and relevant to their lives.
  • Oversee the administration and management of the VOS Teen and Intergenerational “Better Together” budget, program, guest speakers, supplies, food, fees, etc.
  • Collaborate and communicate with Director of Lifelong Learning (DLL), Rabbi and Senior Liaison.
  • Effectively communicate with teens, their parents, seniors, and other synagogue staff and lay leaders.
  • Plan and supervise 8 educational, social and community service activities for teens to explore and enrich their Jewish identity. Co-facilitate with rabbi on topic-based discussions.
  • Organize 8 social and community events that bring together teens and senior congregants, fostering meaningful connections and understanding between generations.
  • Promote all events through social media and effective communication.
  • Manage the Better Together grant (prepare and submit mid-year and annual report).
  • 5-10 hours/week.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience supervising teens in educational and informal Jewish settings.
  • Evident maturity, proven leadership skills and ability to serve as a role model and mentor for teens.
  • A passion for engaging with teens and building community.
  • Desire to work in a synagogue environment and be part of a hardworking creative team.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Creativity, flexibility, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Jewish values and customs and a positive attitude toward Jewish life.
  • A degree in Jewish education, social work, or a related field is preferred.

JEWELS: (Jewish Education, Wisdom, Ethics, Literacy, Service), our thriving K-7th Grade Religious School Program Administrative Assistant Position.

Position, Duties and Responsibilities, include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the JEWELS DLL with all administrative duties, including social media and marketing. (15 hours/week).
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal.
  • Must be computer, tech, and social media savvy.
  • Tuesday/Wednesday at VOS. Flexibility with remote work options.

Start Date: June 1, 2024

Compensation: $25-$35 per hour, based on experience.

Time Commitment: 20-25 hrs. per week. Additional teaching hours available, based on qualifications.
