The Davis Academy, an independent Kindergarten Prep - Eight Grade school in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs, seeks an experienced Middle School Social Studies Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year The educator will Instruct middle school students in mastering language-related subjects such as reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, composition, spelling, and literary analysis, fostering strong communication skills, critical thinking, and a love for language learning. Salary is based on experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or BA degree in History, Social Studies Education, or related field.
  • Three years of teaching experience (independent and middle school experience preferred, but not required)
  • Valid GA Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in appropriate educational field

The ideal candidate will posses

  • An ability to build relationships with middle school students, fostering a positive, student-centered classroom environment where they feel safe to explore complex historical and civic concepts.
  • An understanding of child/adolescent development and how social-emotional factors impact learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities geared toward all students.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • A belief that all children can learn and be successful in the study of Social Studies.
  • Ability to communicate historical content and civic concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Experience differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students who need additional support or enrichment.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create interdisciplinary learning experiences (e.g., integrating literature, current events, or geography).
  • Knowledge of current educational technologies and their application in the classroom (e.g., digital primary sources, interactive maps, online simulations).

Essential Functions

  • Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on Davis Academy curriculum
  • Provides a classroom environment that promotes active learning in language arts through discussion, inquiry-based learning, and student engagement.
  • Designs and administers assessments, including formative and summative evaluations, to measure student progress, providing timely feedback to students and families.
  • Provides feedback and positive reinforcement to students.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Meets with parents for formal conferences and informal conferences as needed.
  • Implements appropriate classroom management procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out of class settings including emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, lunchtime, and recess.
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
