Description

The Jewish Community Center of Metro Detroit has an immediate opening for a part-time Gallery Assistant. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROGRAMMING

  • Participate in all aspects of gallery exhibits; planning, curating, show placement/design, wall repairs and maintenance, installation, lighting and labeling artwork
  • Maintain communication with all artists including; managing all paperwork (contracts, W-9 tax forms, consignments, etc.);reparation for exhibits; setting and enforcing deadlines (show dates, artwork drop off/pick up, etc.)
  • Manage programming and events to coordinate with exhibits
  • Facilitate JCC events that take place in gallery

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT 

  • Process sales and artist payments
  • Monitor and update mailing list
  • Confidentially manage customer information
  • Write purchase orders and track/update as necessary
  • Managing exhibit archives

MARKETING 

  • Assist in developing postcards, website updates, etc.
  • Excellent ability to develop and maintain social media via facebook and instagram

CUSTOMER SERVICE 

  • Provide quality service to guests, including; artwork sales, gallery tours, knowledge of art processes and materials, , artwork packaging and transportation, artwork installation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts preferred
  • Work closely with the Gallery Director as a team
  • Understanding of design and exhibition layout/installation
  • Must be able to climb ladders, operate a scissor lift, and be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Must be customer service oriented ? Reliable transportation ? Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) to guests, staff, management and donors ? Maintain confidentiality of records and information ? Ability to work independently, set priorities and handle multiple tasks ? Experience in Windows environments; working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and database software ? Commitment to accuracy and quality while meeting deadline
