Jewish Studies Teacher
Austin Jewish Academy is a small, independent community day school school in northwest Austin. AJA boasts a progressive approach to pedagogy, small class sizes, and an emphasis on social-emotional learning. Our program centers inquiry-based and project-based learning. Experiential learning is fundamental to our teachers' approach. This year, AJA is expanding its Jewish studies and Hebrew offerings, and we seek a teacher to help develop this program.
AJA seeks a talented, organized, and enthusiastic teacher of Jewish studies for the 2022-2023 school year to help lauch a new and additonal track for Jewish studies. The role has a dual nature; one is developing and leading a program that approaches Jewish studies from the richness of Modern Orthodox perspectives. The ideal candidate for this role would be traditionally observant and with a proficiency in Jewish law, prayer, and rabbinic literature. The responsibilities of the role are commensurate with teaching such as lunch and recess duty as well as supervising daily morning minyan.
Ideal candidates will have had stable professional experience, a passion for innovative Jewish education, and an effective communication style. Teamwork is crucial in such a small environment. AJA is a pluralistic community Jewish day school, and we welcome students, faculty, and staff from a diversity of Jewish, religious, and non-religious backgrounds.
