Middle School Science Teacher

Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County is a warm, inclusive Jewish Day School that educates children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a vigorous dual curriculum in General and Judaic studies. We are seeking a highly qualified, passionate, and collaborative teacher of Science in the middle school grades. The candidate will be a role model who can help foster our students’ social, emotional, and academic growth, implement a variety of instructional strategies, and who has familiarity with the latest educational models to enhance student learning for the 21st century. Schechter Bergen cares deeply about our students at an individual level; promotes teacher collaboration on curriculum and instruction; and encourages active participation by teachers in the greater school community.  

The ideal candidate has:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science, Secondary Education, and/or equivalent
• An understanding of effective science instruction and content, including scientific and engineering practices
• An appreciation for lab work and projects as a means of engaging students, while gathering and providing specific feedback to guide student learning
• An ability to inspire and support students through a multi-faceted Science Fair process
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• An understanding of child/adolescent development and how social emotional factors impact learning
• An ability to build relationships with students that foster a positive classroom environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and take academic risks
• A belief that all children can learn at high levels
• Excellent computer skills
• A willingness to continuously grow and learn as a professional in collaboration with colleagues 

Schechter Bergen Science Teacher Responsibilities:

• Teach a full course load of science classes to middle school students including planning and implementing lessons using the agreed upon school curriculum and pacing guides
• Engage in a cycle of assessment to instruction that provide students with multiple options for demonstrating their learning
• Maintain accurate and consistent records of evidence of students' learning  
• Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, emails, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development
• Collaborate with learning specialists to create plans of support for identified students
• Establish and reinforce clear expectations and routines as per Responsive Classroom model
• Serve as an Advisor to a small group of students in middle school utilizing the Responsive Classroom Advisory Program
• Engage with school based coaches and fellow educators in team meetings 

All applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Salary depends on experience and starts at  $55,000-$65,000
