Sigma Alpha Rho Fraternity: Chapter Advisor Position
Time Committment: 5-10 hours per week
Pay Range $12,000 per year
About Sigma Alpha Rho (SAR): SAR is a Jewish High School fraternity established in Philadelphia in 1917 and had chapters throughout the US East Coast, New Orleans, California and Canada. SAR was active for 100 years and ceased operations in 2017.In 2019 the SAR Alumni Association started to rebuild and has one chapter in Bucks County PA, with two immeidate opportunities, one in Bucks County, PA and South Jersey.
The tenants of SAR are to provide Jewish youth ages 14-18 an independant organization that provides, social, athletic, cultural activities and leadership opportunties in an organized chapter setting. The chapters are student run and will be supported by an advisor. Each chapter is able to create their own identity and events.
The Excutive board of the SAR Alumni Association has authorized the hiring of chapter advisors to lead the growth of SAR. SAR will be launching chapters in Bucks and Montgomery counties in PA, and South Jersey (Voorhees, Cherry Hill). The long term goal will be to start chapters along the east coast.
The Chapter Advisor position is a unique and exciting opportunity to help with the re-activation of SAR. The Chapter Advisor will report to a representative of the Alumni Board and assist in the start-up and the ongoing activity of the chapter. The candidate will have an entrepenurial spirit and play an important role in strategic visioning and decision-making during this exciting time of SAR's rebirth. The position is 80% remote and 20% in person for meetings and events when needed.
This opportunity is ideal for college students, teachers, and others looking to help mentor and advise young Jewish men in this part-time endeavor.
Job Functions:
In conjunction with the student leadership, develop and execute chapter programming
Facilitate chapter meetings on a bi-weekly basis via Zoom and periodically in person
Inspire, empower, mentor and supervise a group of young leaders within each chapter
Communicate with Alumni Board representative on a consistent basis
Communicate with parents as needed
May have to chaperone on occassion
Candidate Requirements
Confidence in iniating and running programs, while developing opportunities that assist and empower young leaders to take iniative
Comfortable working independantly and collaboratively
Strong personal and communication skills
Excellent time and management skills with attention to detail
Candidate Experience
Experience working, volunteering or participating in Jewish organization (summer camp, Hillel, youth group, college fraternity, etc.)
High School diploma required
Must live or go to school in Philadelphia its suburbs, New jersey, NYC metro area.
Compensation
It is estimated that 5-10 hours per week will be needed to perform the job successfully
$12,000 per year
Reimbursement of travel expenses
