Job Summary:
Under general supervision, provides an exceptional classroom experience for Elementary and Middle School students.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teaches 6th-8th grade science
- Develops and assesses curriculum in collaboration with faculty and education administrators to meet and surpass NGSS standards, JDS goals, and current trends in education
- Utilizes technology to support student success
- Assesses student learning and communicates student growth to families through formal and informal reports and conferences
- Provides regular communication to families through weekly newsletters and informal methods
- Acts as an advisor to a group of Middle School students
- Engages in professional development with faculty and staff and actively seeks professional learning and current trends in education
- Attends and contributes constructively to faculty and community meetings
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
- Actively participates in the full life of the school, including admission, development, and community events
- Vigorously engages in their own professional development; is a life-long learner who enhances their skills, using state-of-the-art technologies to maintain high standards of performance to efficiently and effectively produce work products
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited four-year college or university required
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Current Teaching Certificate preferred
- Training in inquiry-based learning, Responsive Classroom, and implementing the NGSS standards preferred
- 3 years teaching middle school required
- Experience in an independent school environment preferred

- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to travel locally
- Ability to work outside in any weather
